Previous posting also goes for when you are a tad ... "tired and emotional" when you post, and need to know what you posted so you can go back and apologise.....

Sorry.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't have a hangover....!

Hi, Beau - I've tried to explain most of that on the Mudcat FAQ - Newcomer's Guide (click). We have three different ways to search the Forum.
  • The "filter" on the Forum Menu Page searches just through the thread titles, and it's the only one that lets you set a time limit on your search. Put a phrase or word or part of a word from the thread title in the filter box, and then set the time to a week or a year or whatever.
  • In the "Quick Links" dropdown menu that you find on most Mudcat pages, you'll find a link to the old Forum Search page, which allows you to search the Forum by the subject or the name of the sender of messages, or both.
  • Our newest and most powerful search engine is our SuperSearch which searches the entire text of all our Forum messages, and of all the songs in the Digital Traditon Folk Song Database. You can also search the Digital Tradition and access other DigiTrad features by using the blue DigiTrad search box you'll find on most Mudcat pages. Note that the "titles" list of the DigiTrad doesn't work very well - better to use the search box.
Just to keep you on your toes, note that each of our search engines has its own set of rules. The best way to learn those rules is by trial and error.
Hope that helps, and that the last sentence doesn't scare you away...

Yes, I know my SuperSearch link returns an error message, but it also gives you a box where you can search. I'm waiting for Pene Azul or Jon Freeman to show me how to link to a SuperSearch page without generating that error.

If you posted to it, go to a post that you posted to recently, click on your name and it will give you all what you posted to..... makes sense?

Well I've had a whole bottle of wine and it makes sense to me!

LTS

This is, of course, assuming you can remember the name of the thread you posted to......

If you can do that it's help throw a lotb of lioght on all the "Mudcat ain't what it was" discussions.

Unfortunately I don't think it's possible to time warp the forum like that (I hope I'm wrong) - but what you can do is try to track down a particular thread using the SuperSearch, and putting in some word or phrase you are sure was used in it. (And mess around with upper and lower case here, because though a brilliant facility, it can be a pernickety beast - recently there was a search going on for a thread about "chickens", and it only turned up when someone tried searching for "Chicken".)

And the other thing you can do is click on the name of someone you know posted in that thread, and up come a set of links to all their posts, and you take it from there.

Can anybody tell me how to go back in the forum to a specific date, or range of dates, and bring that info up without having to refresh say 6 months of postings? I tried that and it took so long my computer shut down.
