Come to beautiful downtown Teoc, where the people don't know their arse from a hole in the ground. Wander around and ask the locals for a bit of info on their most famous citizen,Mississippi John Hurt. Bask in their blank stare as they say,"WHO?", or enjoy the excitement as you experience the thrill of their hostility, as they say witty things like, "You ain't from 'round here, are ya?" Years ago, I entered the "Valley store" to inquire as to the location of Mississippi John's grave. The store man said,"John Hurt, John Hurt John Hurt, that's all I hear is John Hurt. What so special about John Hurt. Hell, he was just an old nigger that played the guitar!" He then pointed in the general direction and said, "He's out in them woods somewhur." Jesus said, "A prophet is not without honor, but in his own home." As a former resident of Carroll county, I am disgusted at the lack of honor given to this man in his own home. khandu
