Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Ghost Of Meadowland County From: Jim Dixon Date: 18 Sep 02 - 10:19 PM The Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names lists towns called Meadowland, Meadowlands, and Meadow Lands in various states, but no counties with any of those names. By entering "ghost of * county" (in quotation marks) into Google, I came up with several ghost stories, but no songs, and nothing that sounded even remotely like "Meadowland County". I couldn't locate Big River Bend, either. So I'm stumped. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Ghost Of Meadowland County From: GUEST,Randall Date: 29 Aug 00 - 12:29 PM I found the tape, but it is of such poor quality, that I couldn't make much out of it, but here is what I have. Verse 1. (Two lines of which I couldn't understand anything, followed by:) "Dark was the night and cold was the wind In Meadowland County, near Big River Bend." Chorus: "Ghost of Meadowland County." Verse 2: "It's (?) it come walking from out of (?) A strange looking creature and then it disappeared. No head on its shoulders & it never did speak, But he never took the time to investigate." Chorus: "Ghost of Meadowland County." If anyone recognizes any of this & can help me get the words, I would appreciate it. Randall |
Subject: The Ghost Of Meadowland County From: GUEST,Randall Date: 28 Aug 00 - 07:18 PM Some years ago I lived near a man who, at one time, had played back up for Bill Monroe. He even introduced me to Bill after a concert one night. Pretty heady stuff for a 3 chord strummer like me! Anyway, the neighbor once sang a song for me that was something like "The Ghost of Meadowland County" or in his Western NC brogue "The Ghost of Medderland County." I have a verse of it on a tape somewhere & if I can find it, I'll try to post more of the words. In the meantime, does anyone know this song? Randall |
