He/she may well have been guessing about Patrick Galvin also! I know there's a version of it in a 1947 Walton's collection. Given his dates and the song's style, I'd be surprised if he wrote it. (He did, of course, write the fine "James Connolly" song the one that starts 'Where Oh where..)

Thanks Lighthouse.....should have realised that when someone has a web-page with lyrics on and says that "Patrick Galvin wrote and recorded it....Clancy's I think", that he was only guessing!!!
Wondered why I couldn't find it on their cds!!

The only person I have found listed is someone named Steve Benbow but no other info

The Clancy Brothers definitely recorded it but can't find it on their albums so far.
