Subject: RE: Home for a Rest: which reels played: From: Marion Date: 01 Oct 00 - 01:53 PM Thanks a lot Clinton! I recently met a guitar player (which may not sound like that big a deal, but it's a rare and wonderful occurrence in my present situation in life) who likes this song, so I'm going to suggest a collaboration. And may I just add that I love the lines "These so-called vacations will soon be my death" and "We never saw nothing but brass taps and oak." Marion |

Subject: RE: Home for a Rest: which reels played: From: Pixie Date: 01 Oct 00 - 07:37 AM "Tripping up the Stairs" was pretty good too. I have known Geoff since he was a heavy duty mechanic and how SOTW came into being is quite a neat story. Anyway, they all gave up their day jobs fairly quickly and I sure miss "the good old days" of the band. I don't know what the band is up to now, but Geoff has been "working out" with the Paperboys for a couple of years now in between SOTW gigs, I guess. He's a wicked flute and bodhran player, and can really wank out on the whistles. Not to mention he can write a fine tune. Pray hard, maybe they will "refresh" their old style! Pixie |

Subject: RE: Home for a Rest: which reels played: From: Willie-O Date: 30 Sep 00 - 08:09 PM Hey, I saw former SOTW flute player Geoff Kelly last night, he's now a Paperboy. Still a great flute and whistle player. The Paperboys bassist is also a former SOTW member. And it seems like the vocalist (Tom Landa) sounds more and more like John Mann every year, consciously or not. An odd evolution. They don't sound as good as SOTW at their peak, but unfortunately the latter now seem pretty lame and washed out. IMHO "Save This House" having been the peak. I may not know much but by god I'm opinionated... Willie-O

Subject: Home for a Rest: which reels played: From: Marion Date: 24 Sep 00 - 10:53 PM Hello. If somebody has the CD liner notes for the Spirit of the West song "Home for a Rest" (I think the CD is called Bless This House or something like that), would you mind checking to see if they identify the reels in the pennywhistle solo? Thanks, Marion |
