The version I was looking for was I Loved a Lad. I've been looking for it for years and I'm so happy I found it.

Now I just have to get round to singing it!!

You'll get 13 hits, right enough, but 4 of them are unrelated contemporary songs that just happen to be set to the best-known "Week Before Easter" tune.  I did check them all at the time!

Hi Claire, if you enter flsebrd* in the blue Digitrad box, you'll get 13 entries. I believe Malcolm's linked-to thread above just leads to 9.

This is one of my favorite songs...so when I posted an off topic comment about "salt sea" words in another thread, Susan of DT said it was indeed The False Bride and there was something about the numbering of that one in the DT that perhaps made it hard to find. Good luck.

As Keith says, that would be the song.  There are a few versions in which the sexes are reversed as in Claire's question; there's at least one on the DT.  I've put links to all the material available here in this thread:  The False Bride

Funny, I've always known it as False Bride. See "I Loved A Lad" on the DT

This sounds like a version of The False Bride except the gender is wrong. The refrain is "..gone to be wed to another" Does that sound right?

I'm trying to track down the name and lyrics of a song I once heard somebody sing about 6 years ago. It's a tragic Scottish love song about a woman who is watching her only true love get married to someone else. I'm pretty sure the song is actually being sung at the wedding, although it is ages since I heard it. Does it ring any bells with any one? I have looked in the database but I don't really have much to go on. I'll recognise it as soon as I see it but I don't really know where to start looking!!
