I tuned into Hober the other day and heard a Rick Fielding recording. I enjoyed running into someone I "knew".

Kathy Westra: I was in Washington DC from California on business a couple of months ago and used the opportunity to spend one day at the Washington Folk Festival in Takoma Park, MD. I particularly enjoyed your performance. Here, I get a chance to tell ou.

It's okay, Mark, I got the impression they didn't know until quite late, either. No problem. It was still worth listening to and they did promise Joe later.

I just got home after a long day (missed the program) and found an email note from Hober advertising tonight's show with not a mention of Joe Hickerson. I feel like I owe everybody an apology.

I'm sorry.

Shoot! It's a good show on collecting, but Joe wasn't able to make it, tonight. They say he'll be on at a later date.

Choir practice goes until 9:00 Mudcat time. Any idea how long will it be? I couldn't find any details on the Hober page.

Tune in! This ought to be fun. Joe's a wonderful singer and has lots of great stories about his involvement in the folk scare of the '50s and '60s. Among Joe's credits is that he shares the copyright with Pete Seeger for "Where Have All the Flowers Gone," for which he wrote the last two verses that bring the song full-circle after hearing Pete sing the first verses at Oberlin College in 1953 or 4. Joe leads many of the songs on Folk-Legacy's wonderful "Five Days Singing" CDs, which remain on my desert-island must-have list. Joe also has three solo recordings on Folk-Legacy. (I confess that I'm not unbiased -- was married to Joe for 13-some years, and still count him as a friend. He is absolutely one of my favorite singers). Joe actually "retired" from the Library of Congress a couple of summers ago, but you wouldn't know it from the time he still spends there as a volunteer.

By the way, Hober.com, if you don't know it, is a fantastic web-radio resource. Folk music 24/7, with lots of live web broadcasts. They play a wide range of material, from traditional to contemporary singer songwriters. I learned about it a year ago from Vermont singers Peter & Mary Alice Amidon. Check it out! Kathy

On the Sing Out! email list, Doug Goodhil posted a notice that Joe Hickerson will be featured in a live Web cast on Hober. The show is at 9:00pm Mudcat time Thursday, Nov. 30.

For those who may not know, Joe Hickerson is Head of Acquisitions of the Archive of Folk Culture at the Library of Congress. This is sure to be a treat. Tell everyone to tune in to Hober and send them a "reception report" as you listen. Let them know people are listening.
