Subject: RE: Paddy on the Landfill From: bill\sables Date: 06 Dec 00 - 07:26 AM Tunes are used with diferent names in diferent areas for example "Devils Dream "which I heard in the USA is the same tune as "Devil Among the Tailors" in the UK. Paddy on the Landfill sounds like a name given to a newly composed tune following the titles like Paddy on the Turnpike, and Paddy on the Line. The Landfill seems to me like a modern invention, I even composed a hornpipe which I called "Paddy on the Pipeline" after the Irish ganger who was digging up the road near my house to install a pipe line to carry water from the Keilder Resivoir in Northumberland to Yorkshire. I have recently composed a hornpipe called "Napoleon crossing the Humber Bridge" after the series of Napoleon crossing titles like "Napoleon crossing the Rhine" Bill |

Subject: RE: Paddy on the Landfill From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 06 Dec 00 - 07:03 AM It's a reel composed by Rob Hayes, an American. As Margo says, it's included in a book, Along the River: Contradancing in the Connecticut River Valley. Probably that's the only source of written notation for the tune at present. For the curious, accordionist David DiGiuseppe may be heard playing it here: efolkmusic.com Malcolm |

Subject: RE: Paddy on the Landfill From: Margo Date: 06 Dec 00 - 02:28 AM I have it in a book put together by a lady in Portland, Oregon. I think the book is called "The Portland Collection". It is a whole collection of music for the Portland Megaband that plays once a year (about 50+ people) The lady that put the book together is Sue Songer, and if you're interested in the book she can be reached at songer@teleport.com Hope this helps, Margo |

Subject: RE: Paddy on the Landfill From: Jimmy C Date: 06 Dec 00 - 01:36 AM Never heard of this (Landfill) tune. I have come across a tune called " Paddy on the turnpike", very popular with Newfoumdland accordion players. Could it be the same one ? |
