Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Anglo Date: 12 Jan 01 - 01:51 PM Well, if you're chasing down recorded versions, there's always the Dransfields. |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 12 Jan 01 - 01:16 PM Er, yes... last year. Oddly enough, I haven't written the wrong date on any cheques, yet, though. Malcolm |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: GUEST,Peter Dean Date: 12 Jan 01 - 11:06 AM Also a very fine version done by Dave Burland, spliced together with "I'm going for a soldier, Jenny" Splendid idea. |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 12 Jan 01 - 08:21 AM And for another very fine version of the song, seek out Donald McGeoch's CD "Doon Yonder Den". |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Ringer Date: 12 Jan 01 - 07:14 AM Tut tut, Malcolm: you haven't quite got to grips with this Millennium thing, have you? "Posted last year" I think you mean. (Sorry: just being pedantic) |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jan 01 - 04:22 AM I'm no longer involved in the folk club bit round here (and booking wise I have at the most been part of a team)but if I was, I would happily book GH again. At the time I am thinking of, he was one of our "Mr. Reliables" - not expensive but we knew he would always give a good night. Trying to think who else there was.... Derick Gifford springs to mind and Barry Skinner who at the time used to live in Beddgelert (and maybe still does) used to do a wonderful job for us. Jon |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Jan 01 - 04:07 AM Yes Jon, still going strong and as powerful as ever if not more so! Still does the local folk clubs but as he is now national we do not see as much of him as I would like. I'm not sure when he is on at Swinton next but he is on at the Star in Failsworth on Feb 18 and Gregson Lane folk club on May 3rd. I'm sure he must be on elsewhere as well but these wee the only listings I could find. If you need contact details for him PM me - I'm sure he will be only to happy to "come home again to Wales...";-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Jon Freeman Date: 12 Jan 01 - 03:47 AM DTG, Is Geoff Higgibottom still singing? He gave us some very good nights in the Llandudno Folk Club. Jon |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Dave the Gnome Date: 12 Jan 01 - 03:32 AM Good version by Geoff Higginbottom - try to have a listen either live or on one of his albums. DtG |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: GUEST,Ian Graham Date: 11 Jan 01 - 03:24 PM The very one. Many thanks to both of you. Ian |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Lads From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 11 Jan 01 - 02:55 PM Posted earlier this year, in this thread: Lancashire Lads Found via "Digitrad and Forum Search" on the main Forum page. Malcolm |
Subject: Lyr Add: LANCASHIRE LADS From: John J Date: 11 Jan 01 - 12:24 PM how about:
It was last Monday morning
Cho:
Said a mother to her daughter
for soldiers are but rambling boys
said a mother to her daughter
Should you confine me 7 long years
My love he is dressed in scarlet
We'll get sweet hearts enough me boys I think JJ |
Subject: Lancashire Lads From: GUEST,Ian Graham Date: 11 Jan 01 - 12:08 PM Anyone know the lyrics to a song called The Lancashire Lads or something similar? It's about a woman complaining to her mother because she's been loved and left by a soldier (the woman has, not the mother). The last line of one verse is "The Lancashire Lads have gone away, whatever will I do?" I'm humming the tune now, but it doesn't come across very well in straight ASCII. Thanks Ian Graham PS Very useful site. All hail to Mudcat. |
