Thanks for the nice messages. Kat, I won't be singing it, I will be playing recorder with it. Perhaps I will write a descant.

leenia; glad you managed that. I did much the same shortly after your last posting - and have had a midi waiting for you but was unable to contact you.

Good for you, leeneia! I am sorry I missed your earlier thread. I have a wonderful recording of this on an Lp I bought about 20 years ago. This has always been my favourite piece on the whole album. They did it with several voices and the authentic instruments, including what sounds like crashing cymbals and if I remember correctly, a sacbutt.

Now my album is in storage, so I've bookmarked that tower of babel site with the sound file of it, so I can listen to it once in awhile, thanks to you. I'd love to be able to hear you sing it, also.

kat

No doubt you've all been wondering if I will ever get the MIDI of Kalenda Maia into a useable form, and I'm glad to announce that I finally did it. I went back to whatever site that was (see previous thread), right-clicked on the little tape player, and saved the song to the A drive. It is harder for a file to hide on a floppy diskette - heh heh.

Then I told Noteworthy Composer to open it, and this time I unchecked the box that says to save each track to a different staff. This eliminated about six staffs and put the melody on one line. Ta da!

However, the melody was full of funny rests (the result of NWC being too literal about the fingering) so I did it all over, this time changing the resolution to 1/8 rests instead of 1/16th rests. Now it looks like a song. I've had to transpose it three times so far, but I'm still not in the key our superstar sings it in, but I will, in time, prevail.

Meanwhile, they call this painful process "surfing the Web..."
