My now late husband and I lived in Orlando in the early 90s, where you only visit Disney if a friend (who worked there) could get you in free. Somehow we found ourselves visiting The Rat fairly frequently during the early Pleasure Island days when many classic blue acts played there, like the incomparable and fabulous Kiki Taylor. Every time we passed through the Disney gates, Jon insisted on playing Commander Cody’s version of Truckin and F$@&ing at full blast on the very excellent and loud audio system he had installed in his Aerostar van. To this day I don’t know why he insisted on this but I never questioned it as it just seemed so right. I still live in the Orlando area and when I visit the Disney area, always and only on a free pass, I play this song. I hope you will too.

It is almost certainly 'Everybody's Truckin'' recorded by the Modern Mountaineers in 1937 with Smoky Wood on vocal. It could well have been covered by Commander Cody. The Mountaineers version has been reissued on CD on Various 'Woodchips and Heartbreakers: The Blue Roots of Western Swing' Ziconvert Vert701. It is also reissued on a beaut compilation CD - Various 'Western Swing: Hot Hillbilly Jazz & Blues 1935-47' ASV Living Era CD AJA 5214. The insert to the latter indicates that the song was written by someone with the surname 'Fritsch'.

I hope I've got the title right, I think I had it on a tape of miscellaneous songs from the '70's. Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen perhaps. The chorus went roughly "Fuckin', truckin', everybody's doin't now". Weird tune, but it swung pretty hard.
