Yes indeed I mean Galicia, but not the one in Poland. There is a region by this name in NW Spain, bordering on Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

Another good website that has its own radio show courtesy of RealAudio is www.highlanderweb.co.uk. Also lots of info about Scotland and good links.

I am having serious difficulty with my beloved mudcat - I had to wait while this thread loaded at the whopping rate of 86 bytes per second. Took about 88 minutes!

Lots of good stuff out there if you know where to find it. The Internet is a great resource. Check out www.scot.demon.co.uk/scotfaq/contents.html. You can find lots of ideas for programs, and many email and snail mail addresses. Also a comprehensive listing of celtic programs on radio in the US.

As you know, "Celtic" encompasses a wide range of music from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Galicia, and parts of Canada. Have I missed anywhere? You have alot to choose from.

If you have RealAudio(tm), go to http://audio.wmnf.org/shows/intro.html and pull up Thursday at 7:00 pm. You will be able to listen to the last two weeks of a weekly show called "Music of the Isles" right over the net. In fact, if you go to http://www.wmnf.org, you can explore the whole darn station, send e-mail to the DJ's (to ask your question directly) and a ton of other stuff, including download RealAudio(tm) if you don't already have it. This is our local community radio station, and I think it's a good one! Check out the Blues shows in the mornings.

We have a pretty good Celtic/Irish program on the radio here in Salt Lake City, 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. Mountain Time every other Sunday. It's called the Fret and Fiddle show and alternates with the American version (also pretty good). The radio station is KRCL, 90.9 FM, which is "Community supported Radio" - they're kind of like PBS in that they don't play commercial messages and they grovel for funds on the air twice a year. Anyway, the two guys who do the Celtic Version are Mark Cantor and Dean Mednick and I'm sure they would be glad to help you out. Visit KRCL's Website where you will find their E- and Snail- mail addresses and phone numbers.

"Grovel for funds" - I'm pretty harsh aren't I. Seriously, KRCL is a great station and I'm just feeling guilty for not giving to them - they have a translator in Moab Ut too for all you mountain bikers out there.

It´s quite hard to hear anything celtic in the radio if you´re living too far away for receiving FM.
So, Helen, please let us know about your collegue´s radio station, and it´s frequencies (AM preferred), and you´ll get at least my suggestions soon.
By the way, does anybody know about any other good programs on celtic culture/music (in english would be great, my gaelic is awfully poor).

Hey! This is just what I'm looking for! I'm so glad someone started this thread. I'd love to know how to go about it from start to finish if you wouldn't mind. Scottish and Irish music as well as celtic culture info other than the Thistle and the Shamrock. The local station already has it. Suibhan, Anything you could tell me would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need to know which labels, or do you already know which ones to contact? Are you interested in any Celtic stuff, or do you want to concentrate on Scottish or Irish? To start, are you just going to play music, or might you be interested in other programs on Celtic culture?

My college is re-starting our radio station and I'm wondering if anyone knows how to go about letting the recording labels know that we'd appreciate anything they'd like to send us and any suggestions about doing a program dedicated to Celtic and folk music
