Oh WOW! I'm so glad that some traditions never die and at least one part of my history hasn't been erased by time. Thanks Quincy.

Metchosin,
The Galtymore is alive and well in Cricklewood...on the Broadway. It has two separate ballrooms and it has some of the biggest names on the Irish circuit every week. There is a large balcony and we often used to say that it was a bit like a cattle market cos the fellas look down from the top...then make their move!!

I used to go up to a few times a year to see Brendan Shine or the Conquerors but it's been over a year since I last went.....good night out though!
The following advert is from the Irish World newspaper. The Galtymore

Hope this helps, best wishes, Yvonne

The reggae thread brought back some memories. In the 60's I attended a large Irish Dance Hall, somwhere on the outskirts of London. I believe the name was the Galtymore sp? I don't ever suppose it is still in existance, but if anyone was familiar with it, where exactly was it located and how long did it survive?

It was one of my most fond memories of my stay and I was intrigued by the great crowd of males at one end of the building and the females at the other, who would join together for a dance and the retreat back to their respective walls. I loved it.
