Subject: ADD: I Will Fly (johnsmith) From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Sep 20 - 12:58 AM I WILL FLY (johnsmith) When my time comes to leave I want you to know I believe That love goes on, and never dies. So when I'm gone I will give you a sign... I will fly across the valley I will land up in the pine When you hear the lonesome wren song You will know it's me up on high. so please don't cry, when I go Just break out the fiddle and rosin the bow. And sing all night til the morinin' comes Send me on my way upon the wings of love.... I will Fly across the valley I will land up in the pine and when you hear the lonesome wren song , you will know it's me up on high. So throw my ashes to the cold four winds Remember my promise to come back again. And on some dark blue day when you heart is sad I'll be up there singinhg from the highest branch..... |

Subject: RE: Anyone else hear of Johnsmith? From: Hamish Date: 30 Apr 19 - 03:25 AM No... but John Smith is tremendous. I don't think he was probably gigging when this thread started because his first CD was 2006. He's from Devon. Here's his website: John Smith's website |

Subject: ADD: Safe Home (johnsmith) From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Apr 19 - 09:51 PM My favorite johnsmith song is "Safe Home." I found a recording here:
-Joe- SAFE HOME (johnsmith) We've come through the valleys, we've come through the fields, We've crossed over rivers, to find ourselves here. We sang songs of sorrow, we sang songs of love, Let's sing one more together, to send ourselves off. CHORUS Safe home, safe home, safe home will you go. May the light of the moon smile down on your road. Safe home, safe home, safe home will you go, Until I next see you, safe home will you go. We've laid down our worries, our troubles, our fears, Like shells on the strand, washed by laughter and tears. But the tide has returned now, to lift us away, Back to our houses and families we pray. CHORUS Well, the fiddles are quiet, the whistles all still, Only echoes remain from the jigs and the reels. The dance floor is empty, our farewells all said. Now it's time to be going, till we all meet again. CHORUS (twice) Until I next see you, safe home will you go.

Subject: Anyone else hear of Johnsmith? From: campfire Date: 12 Feb 01 - 01:16 PM I recently attended a concert at a local "coffee-house-in- the-church-basement" and was very pleasantly surprised. I had gone more to support the venue than anything, as I had not heard of Johnsmith before. I don't know if Johnsmith travels outside the Wisconsin-Illinois-Minnesota area, but if he's ever near you, give him a listen. I should say he's a singer/songwriter, NOT a "folk" performer, but I found his lyrics to be universally applicable, not navel-gazing. campfire
