I guess I could have added that, had he been raised in London, New York or Los Angeles, Declan would have been a major "moghul" of entertainment. I am delighted for traditional music that he was raised in Roscommon and has stayed there.

Declan Coyne is a most deceptively adroit man. Outwardly, he seems like any of the many farmers you might meet in rural Ireland. Rather than that, he has far-ranging tastes, a clear vision for worthwhile projects and a keen understanding of what it takes to make them realized.

The South Roscommon Singers CD is a varied and vivid recording that is very entertaining. If you think Irish folk music is all supergroups, field recordings and crossover artistes, I strongly suggest you pick up the first South Roscommon CD. You will find fine songs and singers and get a great sample of Ireland's living song tradition.

I look forward to hearing the second recording which couples young performers from the heart of Ireland with young people from the Scottish Highlands.
