Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Mar 01 - 09:12 AM Jeri, you may well be right but to view them and see what they are actually pointing to as I suggested in the help forum (especially as Reggie suspects this problem) is a reasonably intelligent step in systematic diagnosis don't you think? Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Jeri Date: 19 Mar 01 - 09:09 AM Reggie, the bookmarks may not be the problem. I'd try them again. All Mudcat servers appear to be working now. Sometimes on the internet, the directions are fine, but where you're going isn't there. (Or it isn't there, then it is, then it isn't.) I also responded in the Help Forum. |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Mar 01 - 09:04 AM Reggie, I have explained one method of viewing/modifying your favourites in the Help Forum, there is a delete option in the dialog there if you wish to use it. Jon |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: reggie miles Date: 19 Mar 01 - 08:59 AM Hey thanks Joe, Kat and Jeri, I guess the last bookmark I made managed to get me here again this morning so logging off and resetting my cookie must have had some success. I will also delete what damaged bookmarks I can but there are some that will not allow me to send them to the trash. They are located in the drop down menu in the address bar just above my screen next to the go button. I can right click them but an options box doesn't appear to allow me to choose to send them to the trash. This may be a job for superguru! |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Jeri Date: 19 Mar 01 - 07:59 AM Mudcat was very slow last night, and I was accessing through Loki. Presently, it seems like all servers except Shorty are either down or very slow. Problems could be at Mudcat, the lines and internet traffic or your computer. Your ability to access Mudcat (as Kat said) doesn't have anything to do with your cookie. I use MSIE, and sometimes have problems accessing anything. The only thing I've found that works is to shut down MSIE and come back in. I don't log off or re-boot the computer (but those are options too), I just close and restart MSIE. I've got it set to dump all temp files every time I shut down. I've tried this manually (Tools/Internet Options/Delete Files and Clear Cache) but sometimes it doesn't seem to work as well as just closing the program. |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:49 AM Hi, Reggie - maybe it's a good idea for you to start fresh and clear your browser cache of any stored Mudcat pages that might be causing you problems. See Hows to Login (click) in the Mudcat FAQ. Maybe it's best if you logout, clear your cache, and login. Also note that there are alternate addresses for Mudcat listed at the top of the Help Forum. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: reggie miles Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:40 AM Kat, I couldn't even get to the site via those address variations. I either was cycled to a MS page that asked me to refresh, which just looped me back to the same page or I was taken to an error page. Neither page even got me to the cafe. I stumbled across a single link in one of my menus that had not yet been corrupted which is how I was able to get here tonight. Maybe it's a virus eating away at my innerds. I'm stumped. :o( |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: katlaughing Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:29 AM Reggie, you should be able to access the site with or without a cookie. There were some slow times, today, when one of the other came up inaccessible, but one of the others was then available, such as www.dharma.mudcat.org or www.loki.mudcat.org. I guess I am just a little confused, sorry. Then you can also always get into the help by going to www.help.mudcat.org, where the other servers are also listed. If you are cookieless, just go into Quick Links and reset it. Sorry if this is old hat. kat aka a joeclone |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: reggie miles Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:23 AM Thanks for checking Joe, I hope it'll just fix itself again like it seems to have done in the past for no particular reason and I won't be permanently unable to access the site from home. |

Subject: RE: Cookies crumblin' From: Joe Offer Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:11 AM Well, Reggie, it looks like your cookie is intact - you posted under your name, not "guest." The 'Cat gets slow at times, especially on weekends when there's nobody around to reboot. Seems to be working OK now. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: Cookies crumblin' From: reggie miles Date: 19 Mar 01 - 02:04 AM None of the variations of the address for the cafe worked for me while trying to access the site tonight. I did manage to get to the Paltalk room where I'm constantly being asked to review some email they sent. I asked for the variable address forms there to see if I could get to the site but none of them worked. Fotunately though I tried another link in my drop down list of sites that I had previously visited and this one worked but I'm nervous that next time I will be cut off from this access point as well. I'll send a note to the gurus in the help section while I'm here. |
