I had one fitted to my Santa Cruz 000 and played it through a PA at the Cambridge Folk Festival (Club Tent, Saturday night**). I wasn't impressed and neither were a couple of other players I know - the bass was far too boomy. Of course, could've been the sound man that night, but I tried it thru a few other amps and got the same results.

My 000 has a big bass and rings like a bell (Martin Simpson reckons it's one of the best he's heard) so I reckon that it was a mismatch between pickup and individual guitar. I later had a Highlander fitted and that is perfect on this particular guitar (but very expensive, of course).

I bet the I-Beam would sound great on a mahagony Taylor.

I would be interested too. The I-Beam apparently uses a special jig set-up which is apparently included with the transducer, which allows the pick-up to be installed under the bridge plate, up against the X bracing and forward of the bridge pins. I've been looking for something for my Martin SPD-koa that doesen't have the metallic sound of piezo, and this might be the answer.

I don't want anything active/with a battery since I normally use a Boss EQ to an ART MP tube preamp/DI (which I think is a smoother set-up than a Baggs) but I'm willing to listen to anything that works.

Ed Miller uses the Baggs product, and it sounds great. Significantly different from the Fishman products. It puts out a good strong, clean signal too (we were running sound for the festival, so got to see how it owrked at the mixing console).

I like the Fishman too, and have come to believe they sound better in some guitar models then in others.

The I-Beam is a little different than either the Fishman or Baggs under-saddle piezo systems (or anyone else's, for that matter). It mounts inside the guitar on the bridge plate, rather than under the bridge saddle. I've heard some pretty good reviews, and I'll be interested to hear Stonewall's as well. Keep us posted.

Nope... but the Seagulls I play have LR Baggs in 'em, and from what I've heard, they sound almast as good as Fishman, at less than half the price...

I posted a few weeks ago asking for advice on pickups. For now I've decided to try the new I-Beam with an outboard pre-amp. It should be installed and ready to go within a week. For anyone that is interested I'll post my opinion of it.

Any of you tried it or heard it? Would love to hear what you think!
