Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: GutBucketeer Date: 16 Apr 01 - 01:35 PM You're Right. This is way different that the "Y'all Come" that I know. Also, If you want to hear Granny in the Cellar you need to go to Karifstan.com very quickly. I understand that it is being taken down this week. JAB |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: MMario Date: 16 Apr 01 - 09:21 AM okay - here is what I derived out of what Jeri derived from a midi I found for a song called "Y'all Come" - which had substantially different lyrics then those in the DT or posted above. But to my ear at least the midi I found fit the lyrics of "Granny's in the Celler" better. I could be wrong.

CHORUS Y'all come, Y'all come. Oh, Y'all come to see us when you can Y'all come, Y'all come Oh, Y'all come to see us now and then. Kinfolks a-comin' They're comin' by the dozen Eatin' ever'thing from soup to hay And right after dinner They ain't lookin' any thinner And here's what you hear them say. CHORUS Pore old Grandmaw's a-wishin' They'd come out to the kitchen And help do the dishes right away But they all start a-leavin' Even though she's a-grievin' You can still hear Grandmaw say: CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: GutBucketeer Date: 13 Apr 01 - 12:40 AM MMARIO Could you post the Midi text that Jeri came up with here too? I would be interested in hearing it to see what the differences are, especially since I am pretty sure Arlie Duff wrote the original lyrics to Y'all Come, if not the original tune. It is always interesting to see how songs and tunes change over time ( That is presuming I entered it correctly). JAB |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: MMario Date: 12 Apr 01 - 10:20 AM BB - thanx - but your tune doesn't appear to match the lyrics I have; (leastwise I couldn't match 'em) Jeri managed to get me a melody line I could work with... thanks to both of you! (Isn't miditxt great?) |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: GutBucketeer Date: 11 Apr 01 - 11:36 PM Also if you go to http://www.kafiristan.com/ They have a banjo workshop on Granny in the Cellar, with chord changes and a real audio file (or at least there was a real audio file at one time). JAB |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: GutBucketeer Date: 11 Apr 01 - 11:32 PM The Mid2Txt program works like a charm! Thanks Alan!!! Here is the melody line from the original sheet music of Y'all Come by Arlie Duff. (I went down to the Library of Congress one day and looked it up). It is in C. If you PM me a fax number I can fax the music with chord changes to you too. GutBucketeer (aka JAB)

Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: GutBucketeer Date: 11 Apr 01 - 11:07 PM If the tune is the same as Y'all come I have the original sheet music by Arlie Duffy (1953). I have put the melody line in MusicTime, but can't figure out how to make it into an impage file. I will try to save it as a Midi and convert it to the Midi Text format for you. JAB |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: y'all come From: Jeri Date: 11 Apr 01 - 03:50 PM MMario, e-mail me a midi or two. I could possibly extract the melody line from the rest of the midi and send it back to you without the clutter. |
Subject: y'all come From: MMario Date: 11 Apr 01 - 03:34 PM frustration talking here. Can anyone send me a scan of the melody line for this tune, and/or a midi of the melody line? I have found several midi's of it on the web - but they are so complex (at least to me) that I cannot derive the melody line from them. I can sing the bloody lyrics in the DT to the tune, but I can't get the melody line extracted!!!!! This tune is what the lyrics for "Granny's in the Cellar" is sung to. |
