O well, can't win em all. For information purposes though, a reason for the audio check working but no sound in the rooms is a Firewall program running and blocking it. I don't suppose you'd just installed or started to run something like Zone Alarm?

I've now uninstalled Paltalk. It was actually working for sound - I did an Audio Check within the program - but I couldn't hear anyone singing or playing in the "rooms".

jtt, this maybe a little late...

Paltalk uses your WAV devices for sound. I'm not clear on what you are saying but if WAV files won't play on Winamp or Media Player, it maybe worth checking your WAV settings in Volume cotrol. You may also wish to try reinstalling your sound card drivers.

Any help gratefully accepted. My CD-RWR went funny last week and I deleted it and let it auto-detect. It returned, but also brought back the automatic opening of Windows Media Player.

I can't use Windows Media Player on this old 233MHz computer, because it's too powerful and it freezes the computer. So until I discovered how to switch off the automatic opening (it's in the CD player's Properties in Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager, under Settings; you unclick "Auto-insert notification", by the way)it would spring open if I put in a CD.

This now seems to have disabled the sound on Paltalk - either Windows Media Player or WinAmp, my player of choice. I've tried all the upgrades that the Paltalk Help suggested, with no effect.

Has anyone had this problem and solved it?
