@ least some helpful folk can make documents with helpful little arrows and explanatory notes to leave on coffee tables and bulletin boards to counteract the misinformata

i loved rick mercer asking americans [at a marina in fla] if they thought the canuck navy should be allowed to use american ports as their naval bases :)

and neil is right it's criminal here we are on this global rete and half the younger generation can't find the north pole on a globe

[It's finally slipped out ... the words 'the younger' ... mebbe there's a song in that. keep up the BS catters

Even before "the net", when my uncle was going to visit us from Germany (we are in the US of A), someone asked if he was going to drive all that way.

It's pretty sad when a high school student can't find the USA on a globe.

Unfortunately over here across the pond we run into that also. Apparently these days teaching Geography is unneccessary in the educational system. Makes me almost ill thinking about the minds that could be so much more than they will be if thing don't change. Sorry about the rant but we should be railing the hides off the politicos and school boards until it improves. Kindest reguards, Neil

Gee, Red, she might have sent you to Cambridge, Mass. or Oxford, Miss. Oh, well, presumably she meant well. But, then again ....

I once asked a lass on the phone for a location of her company's shops so I could eyeball the products.
I mentioned Oxford, where I worked. She thought she was being so helpful by suggesting Cambridge
Goes together like Horse and Carraige.
I can see where she was coming from from, its only two inches on the map.

In todays Electronic Telegraph (uk) there is the story of an American Business woman who was arranging a trip to China. To this end she booked accomodation at the White swan hotel in Guangzhou (so she thought), the town she was visiting. On arrival she found the hotel full, with no record of her booking. She backtracked her actions and found that she had booked into the White Swan guest house in Pickering in North Yorkshire.

I know that not everyone rates a knowledge of geography as importent but confusing China and the UK surely takes some doing.

If anyone would like a copy of the revised US world atlas that is currently doing the rounds at work please PM me, you might find that it explains the above error.
