2 fingers, actually:

Middle finger, 2nd Fret, 4th string,
Third finger, 2nd Fret, 2nd string.

Whether it's A, or A7, is not the point, though.
Getting used to putting your fingers into positions that they would not otherwise be in, however, is fundemental to the learning process, and adds to the challenge of getting it 'right'.

It's good practice.

B.

Brendy -

I think, A7 isn't necessary, A sounds quite as good (at least to me) and it is much easier to do, especially to beginners; you don't have to place four fingers at a time but only three.

And what about

(G)One for the morning (C)glo--(G)ry.
(D)Two for the early (G)dew.
(Am)Three for the (D)man who will (C)stand his (G)round.
And (C)four for the (D)love of (G)you me (Am)girl,
(C)four for the (D)love of (G)you.
(D)(G)(C)(G)(D)(G)(D)

Sorry for being so late again.

Joerg

Here's the tune, as transcribed from the Shannachie CD 'The Makem & Clancy Collection.' The MIDI will play the chorus first, then one verse and repeat the chorus. NWC has been sent to Joe Offer and the MIDI to Alan.

Thanks!!! As usual I was trying to make it more complicated than it is.

My friend named his boat Morning glory based on this song so I'll have fun playing it this summer at the cottage.

stand "his" round - ie - cough up his share when people are buying rounds, not duck out when it's his turn.

i have it as "three for the man who'll stand his ground" which i thinks makes alot of sense since it says he goes off to the foriegn shore to fight the foe. but really i guess it is just personal preferance huh?? mel

I have it as "three for the man who will stand THIS round" - is it really HIS? Makes more sense my way, but that doesn't mean much...

that works great! only thing is i need to make a correction.. in the chorus at two for the early dew, a should be played at two ( i hope this makes sense) and then should be switched at dew to a [G]. also this song has some great places for some runs, hope everyone enjoys playing this song as much as i do

[G] At the end of the day, I like a little drink to raise

up me voice and sing

[C] And an hour or two [G] with a fine, brown brew and

I'm [D] ready for anything

[G]At the Cross Keys Inn there were sisters four, the

landlord's daughters fair

[C]And every night when they'd [G]turn out the light I

would [D] tiptoe up the stair ...singin'

cho:

[G] One for the morning [C] glory [G],

two for the early dew

[C]Three for the man [D] who [G] will stand his [C]Ground

And [C] four for the [D] love of [G] you, me girl, [C]

Four for the [D] love of [G]you

Sorry the first didn't turn out as planned, hope this is a bit better, although you may have to adjust the chord position a bit. they are in the near locality :)

Hi, Mel - I tried to fix the chords layout with the HTML preformat tag and line breaks, but there were a couple of places where I couldn't understand what you wanted. I hope this is OK.

Subject: Chords needed: One for the morning glory ^^^
From: GUEST,Brian Quigley
Date: 26 Apr 01 - 03:51 PM

Anyone have the correct chords for this song? I figured a few out and can flat pick the notes but there's a few chords that are still escaping me. Thanks!

HERE'S TO THE MORNING GLORY

At the end of the day, I like a little drink to raise up me voice and sing And an hour or two with a fine, brown brew and I'm ready for anything At the Cross Keys Inn there were sisters four, the landlord's daughters fair And every night when they'd turn out the light I would tiptoe up the stair ...singin'

cho: One for the morning glory, two for the early dew Three for the man who will stand his round And four for the love of you, me girl, Four for the love of you

I got the call from a foreign shore to go and fight the foe And I thought no more of the sisters four, but still I was sad to go I sailed away on a ship, the Morning Glory was her name And we'd all fall down when the rum went 'round, then get up and start again

I bore once more for my native shore, farewell to the raging seas And the Cross Keys Inn, it was beckonin', and me heart was filled with glee For there on the shore were the sisters four with a bundle upon each knee There were three little girls and a bouncing boy, and they all looked just like me... ^^^
