To repeat Bill's instructions from the first thread :

Chapel Haddlesey is a crossroads between Selby and the M62 on the A19. It is very easy to get to as it is near the A1 and M62. So any U.S. or Oz catters just follow the M62 from Manchester airport, or those of you coming from Europe to Hull just follow the M62 the other way. Geordies and Scots come down the A1 to the M62 and turn left and Southerners come up the A1 or M1 as far as the M62 and turn right. You Can't Miss It.

Bill

JohnJ, come off the M62 at Jct 34 and head north towards Selby. When you get to Chapel Haddlesey, (Alan, I thought my map had spelled it wrong too!) slow down, there is a right turning down which you can see The Jug. If you drive too fast you'll miss it!

Seee you all soon.

Noreen

Are you ready for this, Chapel Haddlesey (funny, for weeks I've been pronouncing it "Chapel Haddesley" - dyslexia lures!)?

For the benefit of anyone confused by Noreen's post, I'm going to tuck the Beatles songbook into my guitar case, 'cos Noreen sings these traditional Liverpool airs beautifully, and I fully intend to ruin the show by busking along on my phonofiddle (or whatever instument I can cram into the boot of the Scooby after Elizabeth's packed her wardrobe for the weekend).

We seem to be the only B&B customers - I do hope that the proprietors of the Ivy House are not of the "You've got to be in by 10, lights out 10.15, breakfast 7 to 7.30" variety. If they are, I'll have to blame Bill Sables, it was his recommendation!

Looking forward to some good craic, and to putting some three-dimensional faces to names. Working on ideas for the tombola (auction?).

Both the missus and I were born in Yorkshire, so there shouldn't be any language difficulties.

See you tomorrow early pm.

Alan

OH bloody hell-I've become a tombola obsessive now! Everything in my house is being eyed up as a potential prize -John says I should leave the bloody Dyson out of it as we still have carpets to vac. At least I've bought something sensible for the raffle (which is most unlike me). well I'm packing off the dog to kennels now -always have a guilt trip about this so she's on about her fifth bag of chewie whatsits as compensation -see ya tonite!!!

Sorry about my state. I saw this e-cafe on Oxford Street and couldn't resist it.

I do not sleep any more, the twins do not allow it. I have been awake since they got us up at 5.00am yesterday morning (Rowan managed to dial the police at 5.30 - they phoned us back minutes later!).
We are just about packed - the caravan has been at the Jug since Wednesday teatime.
To quote some '60's telly or film, I forget which, "expect the unexpected!!!!!!!!"
Can you quote something you cannot remember????
Who cares???
Quack!!! Geoff.

Thanks I D sadly the one thing I haven't been able to fix is the computer. I wanted to use my laptop but can't get it to recognise a mic or rather it does but won't record. Syd's is not suitable and that means we can't manage the live paltalk session I had hoped for unless someone out there has a laptop they can bring. Syd has already said we can use the line.

THINGS TO REMEMBER
Beer money
Suitable carry out vessel for beer to ceilidh
Torch for late night excursions
Tombola prizes
paracetamol
scarves and skirt for belly dancing
instruments
where the toilet is
your name
The words

Most people are arriving tomorrow evening with one or two more coming on Saturday. The programme very elastic but I am hoping things will get underway properly by about nine with a general music session in one room and a carrotoke in another(basically a singaround with added vitamins). Of course that doesn't mean you have to wait until nine but I thought folk might need a bit of time for erections etc.
Saturday morning breakfast will be available from about 9.30 - 10.30. Please tell Val if you want to order.
The belly dancing workshop will be in the marquee sometime around middayish depending on when Patrish is ready.
The custard workshop will hopefully be mid afternoon outside somewhere as it can be messy!!
At some time during the afternoon there will be Morris dancing by Terpsichore (Northwest) and Castleford Longsword
There will be a barbeque around fiveish (£5 per head) which gives you time to get ready for the ceilidh at 7pm until 10pm which will feature the wonderful Mudcat scratch band and a solo jig performed by the Duck himself!
Then its all back down the pub!!!
Singing and playing will go on all day as and when you want.
Sunday breakfasts will be available from about ten and again should be ordered from Val. There is a Sunday market close by which you may wish to visit or simply carry on singing and playing!!
The Parting Glass singaround will start at around 12.30 but noone needs to hurry off.
All of the above is subject to change at the drop of a hat and the whim of the masses. Its your weekend! Have fun!

Almost needless to say, I won't be coming this weekend. Woe is me, cos I was really looking foward to this. But I know I'd end up being a miserable git and would start stressing over everything.

Have a great time everyone and don't let Micca drink ALL the cider. I'll be thinking of you ( dramatic sniff ! )

Examples of things to bring - unwanted gifts;
that tin or jar or bottle from the back of the larder that you'll never open;
something naff that represents your home town;
something nice, hard to find but cheap (coltsfoot rock would be nice.

Here I am suggesting that Mudcatters have silly ideas. What am I like?

Unwanted instruments? Isn't that an oxymoron, or at least one of those things were the two words don't fit togther (like military intelligence)?

Another fun(d)raiser might be a daft tombola. If we all brought things that wouldn't make much of a raffle prize, we could do a tombola with them. I've already collected some stuff, so don't leave me on my own here.

Noreen has got a D/G melodeon and a couple of recorders for sale and I'm sure I can find one or two banjos, autoharps, mandolins etc. They don't have to be cheepies and any melodeons that don't sell would burn well at the campfire

Bill made a suggestion about having an instrument sale during the weekend. If you have any unwanted instruments that another 'catter may wish to purchase bring them along and if they get sold make a small donation to funds (your choice how much) What do you think?

Mrs Duck, will there be room for another caravan please? It's not for me (I'm already fixed up with b&b) but some other friends from the Wigan area, Kevin & Hilda Foy. They are the ones organising the Coppull Folk Festival on the first weekend in June (to which any and all Mudcatters are invited, and I will be renewing the thread shortly). Kevin's away on a walking holiday and will only be back Friday, so it's likely to be Saturday before they arrive. Can I tell them there will be space? They're not on the internet yet, so they're relying on me for contact.

JeZ, great idea, and I would be delighted.. can you pick me up from the London Train due at Selby station at 13.04 on Friday?? Will you recognize me??? I will be wearing a long black cloak and a badge saying " Mudcat Cafe... Micca" and pushing a barrow containing a 1922 complete copy of Encyclopedia Britannica, and will say.. "the daffodils are frozen in the high parts of Siberia".. and you reply "but spring is coming up the steppes"

Mrs.Duck - after finally figuring out which weekends all the festivals are we are all going to. SAm shouldn't be away this weekend. I will try and pursuade him to come when we go pick up his accordion from the music room tomorrow. (3 reeds have gone now after holmfirth, think he'll have to take it steady!!)

Micca - I can give you a lift from Selby to The Jug as I have to go through Selby first anyway. I'm not working so whenever you get in is great. I on;y live down the road so it won't take me long to get there.

What do you think?

Spots kennel will be incorporated with Daves cave. It will be clean and tidy and have a slight leak. In the event of serious rain we will be appealing to the immediate community for assistance in the form of comfort , dry area's and warmth.

It should be said that I am noted for being appealing due to my big moist eyes , my soft fur and enormous wet tongue.

Spot.

Skipjack,

At your suggestion, I'll be bringing the mandola as I don't play it nearly enough and like the sound.

This has now given me a headache though.

For it needs new strings and of course spares, and loopies are hard (let's say impossible) to get in Brussels.

So now I have to microsurgically remove 16 balls!

...and I don't have any veterinary training whatsoever...

Off to the Jug again for some more final arranging. Its amazing how many times I have to keep going there!!I'm not particularly into themed singarounds but I thought it would be nice if the Sunday lunchtime session were called 'The Parting Glass' and include as many farewells as possible without being too maudlin! I know some will still be there later in the day but a lot have to travel so I thought it would be a nice round up and you've got one week, yes, seven days to sort out a suitable song.

We have a minidisc that has produced some fairly good results in sessions. Our other minor problem is the computer. My laptop has a fault on the microphone socket but I think rigging up Syd's PC in the bar might be a bit awkward. I shall have a trip to PC world or Chris Stephenson and see if it is easy to sort but if anyone else has a lap top set up for paltalk that might solve the problem. Syd has already said we can use the line so I'm hoping for an hour or so after the ceilidh on Saturday night.
