wow Jen Ellen that sounds nice!

I have not spent many mornings by the ocean...but when I did wake on the beach to the sunrise (in Truro) it was indeed an awesome experience...

AAAHHH.....I remember the fog rolling about on the shore...being just a couple of miles off the shore of Oregon I was...The Ocean Faeries dancing in the mists...playing with the whales as they spouted water to greet the morning sun.....A mountaintop poking it's ancient weary head through the mists, tipping its hat to the yellow rays of sunlight.....my fag glowing in the morning twilight the smoke mingling with the dancing fog....

Friendly and alive in ways the ocean is not? Try a morning in the sound.

The immense power of water. A friend of mine delights in telling me it is because our bodies are mostly water, that we are drawn to it for life. I laugh, but I remember our mornings in the straits.

There is a spot, just before the sun comes over the shore, where the dim light allows you to see the changing of the guard. The nocturnals make their run for the trees or to the deep, while the gulls begin their morning rounds of raiding the tidepools of any stragglers. Through the morning mist, steam spouts from the blowholes of the whales.

River or no, it's a lucky person who gets to see morning.

hey no fair posting your morning walks at midnight!

:)

nice words and thoughts; as I move from my home next to the Mystic River to a few blocks from the Charles River, I realize the peace I feel walking along water, night and day, in all seasons, will now change; for one thing there will be more people around...and for another, walking alongside the Charles at night is not too smart. I loved walking home nights by the Mystic, especially in winter, the moonlight through the oaks and shining on the water...silence and wind.

Still it is a healing and happy thing, a walk beside the river, any river. It is friendly and alive in ways the ocean is not.

Come for a walk with me along the North Platte river, please. It is early morning, with the sun just blushing the horizon. If we step quietly we can see the creatures at their earliest stirrings. Little sparrows, nuthatches and robins, as well as other birds twittering about, waking up the kids with a worm that woke too early; a couple of Canada geese stopping over for a visit with the Mallards who maintain a year round residence. This time they even bring their hatchlings, who, along with the ducklings are swimming quite well.

Then, too, along the soccer fields, with their luscious groomed and thick grass, we see the mule deer and antelope catching a few monring nibbles before heading across the river to the mountain or prairie, away from the bustle of the children and their parents beating about at a ball, later, in the midday heat, when the creatures know that anyone with any sense will be nesting down and having a nap in a cool shady spot.

As we walk, the squirrels begin to race about the treetops, leaping and making the boughs sway under their lighening-landing weight, then bounce up from their push-off in pursuit of one another and scolding us all the while.

We pause for a moment and listen to the rushing of the water, mesmerised by its constant, yet, ever-changing flow, breathing deeply of the fresh new day and it is good, this walk of ours. We are ready to face the day.
