A most important date for the whole world. I would highly recommend your reading (I'm almost through reading it myself) "Band of Brothers," by Steven Ambrose. By far the best, and most readable book about the war in Europe that I have ever read. I almost shudder to think what Steven Speilberg and Tom Hanks will do to the story in their HBO mini-series due for viewing in September, but I hope they treat it well.

Lest we forget. Only a handful at the Cenotaph today. Made me angry and tearful. They had a small remembrance on Sunday past, which I did not attend because I didn't know it was to take place. I thought they should have done more, but there it is, eh ? Perhaps next year I'll stir something up because I am "they". Maybe that's the real reason I was angry.

I'm glad your uncle was liberated in time, so many were lost even after liberation. D-Day was a very important turning point in the war. Thanks to those veterans, without whom our democracy, rights and freedoms, would not exist today. Yours, Aye. Dave

Indeed. And happy 70th birthday to my Uncle Steve, too, who was liberated from Buchenwald (you can do the math to see how young he was!) by those selfsame forces.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Bearing in mind the degree of traffic generated by the Pearl Harbor thread, and today's date. Might I ask that at some point in the day you each pause for a moment reflect on all those who fell in the invasions of Europe (D-Day, Anvil and the Italian campaign) and the subsequent liberation.

Walrus
