Subject: RE: Are there BBC recordings of English Folk From: GUEST,Rana Date: 22 Jun 01 - 07:51 AM I have BBC recording of the Albion Band, recorded ca. 1973/74 - excellent live recording featuring the best Albion line-ups. Can't give you the number since the CD is in the car. I've seen ads for other BBC Session releases featuring folk artists - probably easier to find back in the UK than over here (Toronto). Subject: RE: Are there BBC recordings of English Folk From: GeorgeH Date: 22 Jun 01 - 05:51 AM I believe quite a lot of early stuff survives in the archive, but a high proportion of the more recent recordings (i.e. of the "current revival" performers) was not preserved. There doesn't seem any consistency; there have been three June Tabor CD releases from "The Peel Sessions" (don't know how much their contents overlap, though), whereas I think Ralphie recently indicated that almost all the Nic Jones recordings have been wiped. Subject: RE: Are there BBC recordings of English Folk From: IanC Date: 22 Jun 01 - 05:44 AM That's true, but there aren't enough countries, let alone enough halls, to store all of the old tapes the BBC used. The stuff in CADENSA is absolutely amazing. Type Bothy Band in the catalogue (or better still, something like Harry Cox) and you'll see what I mean.
Cheers! |

Subject: Are there BBC recordings of English Folk From: GUEST,Terry Blankenship Date: 22 Jun 01 - 03:57 AM There was a live cd of The Bothy Band on BBC radio one recently. Did the BBC have any other Irish, Scottish, or English traditional musicians or bands that were recorded playing live on it? There could possibly be a lot of great recordings there waiting to be released. I was wondering in particular if there are any cds of English folk and folk rock live on the BBC. Like maybe: Nic Jones, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, The Albion Band, Martin Carthy, Waterson/Carthy, The Watersons, Pentangle, Bert Jancsh, John Renbourn Group, Davey Graham, By the way if there are any musicians or singers into this kind of music near the Cincinnati / Dayton, Ohio area I'd love to meet you and play some songs for fun.
