Mission is on the north shore of the Fraser River, about 1hrs drive east of Vancouver, the festival grounds are in Mission Heritage Park. (in 1861 a Mission was established at this point on the river, where the salt water meets the fresh water.) Maybe you can find it with mapquest.com Its certainly a good deal for the money, $55 for the weekend (incl. friday night) camping is about $15 (rustic) (there is a primitive cold shower set up with a tarp around it) One of the best deals is the $3 breakfast hash browns, scrambled eggs, pancakes with berries and yogurt, coffee and orange juice. It certainly beats the food vendors there, the only one that was any good was was an organic juice bar, with vegetarian meals (not that Im a vegetarian but quite good) chick pea curry, and buddhas blessing (veg stirfry). I highly recommend the festival, and plan to make it a yearly event. petr.

Where is that Mission Festival held? Inquiring from the Seattle area and generally unfamiliar with the territory there.

Gillian Frame was at the VFF, too. Pierre Schreyer I've heard many times in Ontario....was he there with his band? Pierre's sister is an amazing piano player.

bw, mission is always a week after the folk festival. (it was just this last weekend) lineup was Holmes brothers (the highlight of the show imo), Enterloupe, Pierre Schreyer and band Gillian frame and back of the Moon band Eileen Ivers (this was the big name act, although I was disappointed with the vegas style show, it isnt what Irish music is to me,certainly it was worth seeing her bands piper Gerry O'Sullivan) Laio (a galician band from Spain) and a few others. theres an area for camping, I plan to make it a yearly event. and its $55 for the whole weekend (there are 3 stages and one main stage for the eve. concerts - the day stuff starts at 11or so and the evening stage at 7 (630 on sun) this year the cbc came by so one of the stages started at 9am

We were visiting BC. I loved the VFF. I think it was run beautifully for such a huge festival. I like smaller festivals too.

When was Mission? Sounds fabulous...

Black Walnut, Btw I love that name, did you happen to catch the Mission Folk Festival, (I just went for the first time, camped out there and it was a blast) I like it even more than the VFF as you can get a lot closer to the bands and you can jam with other musicians etc. And you can dance in front of the big stage (I find the evening concerts at VFF like looking at a postage stamp) I didnt go to any of those this year. cheers PEtr

Fancy that, Petr! I have to say that I danced more at the VFF than I have at any festival for years. I loved everything, especially Kate Rusby, David Francey, Tri-Continental, the Gospel workshop, the Be Good Tanyas, Michael Jerome Browne, Eliza Carthy...

And although I was there all the time, I missed so much... there was so much to choose from!

yes, well I was there on Saturday there were some great lineups I particularly enjoyed Danu & Lunasa jamming on the same stage. I also liked the Quebecois band Enterloupe, I later saw them at the Wise Hall on wednesday and the first half was songs and tunes but the other half they cleared all the tables and chairs aside and played square dance and contradance tunes the rest of the night (you can tell theyre really a dance band) making it by far the best concert/dance Ive been to at the Wise hall. cheers Im off to Mission Folk Festival tonight (with my fiddle) cheers Petr.

Were any other mudcatters out there with me, dancing and singing in the sun and the rain? What a great festival!
