Here's some info about Eddie Lawrence, the comedian who created the character called The Old Philosopher, and made "Is that what's bothering you, Bunkie?" a catch phrase during the 1950's. I think he's still alive, and he made an album called "The Jazzy Old Philosopher" in 1994.

And here's a transcription of one of his skits: "A Merry Old Philosopher". There were many variations on his basic theme.

I don't remember any of the words precisely but the theme is sort of "You say none of the kids like you, the teacher hates your guts, and the dog ate your homework? Is that your trouble,Bunkie?"
