Subject: RE: BS: Augusta Fabulous - Intrepid Explorer From: MMario Date: 03 Aug 01 - 02:38 PM Ale slopped onto the rough hewn table as he poured himself yet another pint. The few other customers in the dark and filthy tavern would assume him to be far more in his cups then he actually was; much of the nights libations had gone onto the sawdust covered floor, rather then down his throat. He knew the message had been slipped in among the drawings of wolves - but would Augusta find it? Would she see the hidden message in the background of the altered picture? And if she found and understood the message, would she care enough to act on it? That of course was the ultimate question. It had been years, and they hadn't parted under the most cordial of circumstances. He cursed under his breath, far more fluently then he should have been able to curse at this stage of his suppossed inebriation. He would have to watch that, he cautioned himself, lolling back against the wall. He'd spent far too much time in convincing the locals he was nothing but a sot to let a few muttered words blow his cover at this point. |

Subject: RE: BS: Augusta Fabulous - Intrepid Explorer From: JenEllen Date: 02 Aug 01 - 04:38 PM Anipam came into the cabin, first brushing the snow from her shoulders and kicking the snow from her boots. She scratched Kayneeahtoh behind his ears, softly cursing him for the growl, "Where are you from? No manners for friends, eh?" Augusta looked at her kindly. Anipam remembered the reason for her visit. She unbuttoned her parka and retireved a folded skin, which she handed to Augusta. "He got them finished rather quickly," said Augusta. "Yes," Anipam nodded, "He sees the wolves very well." Augusta unfolded the skin to reveal page after page of drawings, illustrations of each wolf in the pack, the perfect compliment to her research. "Thank him for me?" Anipam nodded again, and began buttoning her parka. Augusta implored her to stay for a minute, but Anipam was thinking only of her warm husband, good book, and walrus stew that were waiting for her at home. She politely declined. She stepped out into the swirling snow, strapped on her snowshoes, and pointed herself towards home. She kept herself warm by singing the songs of Anipam the Snow Owl:
A snowy owl's eggs hatched, and she started to sing. |

Subject: Augusta Fabulous - Intrepid Explorer From: katlaughing Date: 02 Aug 01 - 02:51 PM She looked out of the mica-covered window. Daylight was fading into an interminable darkness of swirling snow, punctured by eerie wolf howls every few minutes. Ah, the wolves. How I love to hear their melodies Turning away from the window, Augusta Fabulous scanned her snug log cabin, looking for her cat, Pheelynus, who was asleep in the rafters, basking in the warmth of heat rising from the fireplace. Kayneeahtoh, her big lump of a dog was stretched out, full length, upon the hooked rug in front of the fire, too warm, but too lazy to move. Tomorrow she would work on her reports, filling in, from her notes, all of the data on the wolf pack; where they'd holed up for the winter, which ones survived, what service the one she'd named Alpha-Grey provided as leader of the pack. Walking across to the fire, she sat down in the rocking chair and took up her book. The glow of the embers caught a glint of red in her braided and gray-streaked hair. A woman of medium height, she carried her spare frame with grace and ease; well-seasoned from her years of study and travel in the wild. Suddenly, Kayneeahto lifted his head and let out a low growl. "Shhhh..it's alright boy, nothing stirring out there tonight, rest easy," she said. Pheelynus rose up slowly, arching his back, and sharpened his claws on the timber. He leaped down to a rough-hewn table, then the floor and walked warily over to the door. BAM, BAM, BAM!! There came a loud knocking about the door! |
