Karl Denver's Wimoweh LP was the first I ever bought (Ace of Clubs, 1960, 21 shillings, still got it). I believe his real name was Angus McKenzie and that he came from the Springburn area of Glasgow. I think he retired to the Channel Islands, sorry to hear about his death, a distinctive stylist.

One of Karl's old guitars is now owned by one of the regulars at Wigan Folk Club, and although it's scratched and old, it's much loved both by its current owner, and by the rest of the club, who never fail to ask where it is if he occasionally brings a different one.

Karl died afew years ago. About seven years ago I was playing on the strip in Benidorm and he was playing in the pub down the street. Before that I had heard he was doing bits of walk on work for the tv. Very recently I heard that his guitarist is now working with John Stokes Bachelors
