Subject: RE: Anyone heading for Strawberry? From: Joe Offer Date: 01 Sep 01 - 03:59 PM I know that hill well, Sourdough, and I had a similar experience a few years ago. I'm often thought of attending Strawberry, but I hate driving two-lane roads in the Sierra on holiday weekends. A traffic jam in the mountains seems to be a desecration of the sacredness of nature. Sorry you weren't able to make it to the festival. Here's a link, so people will know what you missed. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Anyone heading for Strawberry? From: Sourdough Date: 01 Sep 01 - 02:08 PM I was on my way to Strawberry yesterday, tapes playing and me singing along with Tim and Molly O'Brian and others, all excited about the weekend. When I reached a point in the SIerra where there is one of those eight mile long grades with a sign, "Turn off your air conditioner", I was a little concerned because my automobile engine heat indicator needle had been riding a bit high. About two miles into the climb, the needle topped out. I pulled off to the side of the road and let the engine cool down before I turned around for home blowing off a weekend of good music with friends and a $130 ticket as well as a lot of concert-going. By nightfall, I was home again after 350 miles of driving to nowhere. As they say - Bummer. "Anyone heading for Strawberry?" Not me, as it turns out. Sourdough |

Subject: RE: Anyone heading for Strawberry? From: Sourdough Date: 31 Aug 01 - 12:06 PM Thanks for the Refresh, Susan. I'm really surprised not to have gotten a response since there will be thousands of people there from across the West. I know Marshman will be there so that is one Mudcatter I'll see but I was hoping to meet a couple of new old friends. (I introduced Marshman to Mudcat). When I saw that you had answered, I was hoping you might be planning on attending. Sourdough |

Subject: Anyone heading for Strawberry? From: Sourdough Date: 30 Aug 01 - 03:48 AM On Friday morning, I'll be heading for the Sierra, this time in a car. I'm going to be carrying guitar and autoharp to Camp Mather for the Strawberry Festival. I went to Walnut Valley on my bike two years ago (my first folk festival since Indian Neck well over three decades ago). Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance ot meet any Mudcatters there. This time, I will be wearing my Mudcatter pin. I hope to put some faces to some names. Anyone here planning on Strawberry this weekend? Sourdough |
