Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Give Her the Day (Jaki Whitren) From: GUEST,Stephen Clarke Date: 16 Aug 17 - 06:05 PM Hi Andy I am a very good friend of Jaki Whitren. I'm very sad to say that she passed away in November 2016. I am trying to build an archive of her work and I note that you knew her and have demo recordings you made in Southampton many years ago. I have all her recent recordings. Would you be open to sharing what you have with me? Cheers Stephen stephennow@hotmail.com |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Give Her the Day (Jaki Whitren) From: GUEST,glyn Date: 27 Jun 11 - 05:17 PM Spent a delightful evening with Jackie and John at their house in France last year. She's moved on from 'Raw but Tender, and is more into soft, laid back songs with just a base and key board. Her katest album 'Isis Unveiled' has all the hallmarks of another classic. Totally different to her early stuff but the voice is still amazing. They spend most of their time in France but make trips back to their UK base near Glastonbury from time to time. A very reclusive couple, I am not able to give their address, but if you would like to find out more check out Jackie's page on Myspace. Give her a day is : intro: am7 d7 g - base run to -em am7 d7 g. You will be able to work out the verse from there. Good luck ! |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Give Her the Day (Jaki Whitren From: GUEST,Stormin Date: 29 Nov 07 - 06:48 AM I met Jaki late 60's in Soton - Derby Road I think, red light area! - wonderful lady. She was a very good friend of my Niece Teri Clifford and they sometimes sang together. Introduced me to Joni Mitchell and Buffy St.Marie(the music). She would only wash her long brown hair in rain water and she played a mean game of table-football!! Brilliant song - the lady has real talent. Love & Good Luck to you Jaki, Norman |
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Give Her the Day (Jaki Whitren) From: GUEST,Mac2martin Date: 22 Oct 07 - 11:53 AM Hi All, I saw Jaki Whitren when I was 16 and she was 18 in a little school hall in Birmingham (Wythall, I think)just sat there with her guitar singing these incredibly beautiful songs. The song "Give her the Day" had been released about three weeks earlier and when she sang it and the whole room started singing the chorus with her, she looked up from her guitar incredulous that everyone knew her song and started crying. It was one of those moments that stays with you forever (as it has with me these 35 years!). It seemed like she was the only one who didn't realise how incredibly talented she was. The album is phenomenal - vocally, lyrically and musically - some of the best acoustic guitar work you will ever hear. I lost it a long time ago and am OVERJOYED that it's been released on CD (which I have just ordered). Thank god for music lovers everywhere! I thought I was the only one who remembered how great she was. Oh, and thank you Jacki - for a gift which I still unwrap today! Love and peace, Martin |

Subject: Lyr Add: GIVE HER THE DAY (Jaki Whitren) From: Geordie-Peorgie Date: 07 Apr 06 - 06:30 PM Hey-up! It tuk uz a minnit burra gorrit copied oot! One of the '70's 'shuddabeen massive' talents - Jaki Whitren's "Give Her The Day" GIVE HER THE DAY Well it happened just after I was born. My father passed away And left my darling mother alone to bring us up the very best way And every night before we slept she'd sing us a beautiful song And when she thought we were sleeping she'd say "Lord! Please don't treat them wrong" Oh Lord! Give 'em the day when they can wake up and feel the sun shining on them Oh Lord! Give 'em the day and feel the breeze blowing their bad dreams away Well, the years went by and we grew up. My mother's struggles were through And my brother, he left us for a foreign land and I know he's very happy there too Now my mother is leaving to join him there in a land that she damn' well deserves But I'll stay right here. I'll sing them this song! I'll borrow my mother's words Oh Lord! Give 'em the day when they can wake up and feel the sun shining on them Oh Lord! Give 'em the day and feel the breeze blowing their bad dreams away Well I know I'm gonna miss her when she's gone. She means everything to me And may God be with her every inch of the way when she's sailing across the sea And may my love be with her wherever she goes when she reaches that foreign shore And may her beautiful singing ring in my ears now and forevermore Oh Lord! Give her the day when she can wake up and feel the sun shining on her Oh Lord! Give her the day and feel the breeze blowing her bad dreams away |

Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: Give Her the Day (Jaki Whitren) From: Peace Date: 30 Mar 06 - 07:27 PM Jaki Whitrens latest album is 'Miracle Style' 1996 by her family band 'Court of Miracles'.An extremely groovy funk, jazz album written by John Cartwright on keys, electric guitars and vocs with sons Joby Baker-drums and vocs, William Cartwright-bass and Jaki Whitren main vocals and trumpet. Eco friendly, anarchic, peace loving lyrics riding high on classy grooves played tight and mixed and produced dry. It's great! Miracle Style distributed by Night & Day Cat No.ACT03001. Jaki resides in rural france and is currently preparing material for her next, possibly solo, album!!Fingers crossed.. - Jan Allain -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jaki Whitren was born in 1954. She grew up in Southampton and her frist release was the self penned 'Raw But Tender' album, a singer/ songwriter country bluesy album with Jaki on vocals, banjo and acoustic guitar. The rest of the band all have beards. Stand out track the beautiful 'Give her the Day'. Jaki never went ahead with the second release with CBS. She joined forces and hearts with John Cartwright and moved out of folk into Jazz, funk, soul..and made 'International Times'. Jaki has recorded several albums all are quite difficult to get hold of now. Other releases include 'Rythmn Hymn' and more recntly 'Miracle Style'with her family Band Court of Miracles which is Jaki Whitren- Vocals/ trumpet, John Cartwright-Keys, guitars,William Cartwright- Bass, Joby Baker- Drums. This is a very funky eco friendly anarchic life loving album. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes groove. Jaki lives in South France and is currently writing her way towards a solo album.
