Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: Murray MacLeod Date: 25 Sep 01 - 07:32 PM Spaw and GUEST Pete, you have really gone and done it now, and I hereby declare a fatwa on both of you. Roger McGuinn is a genius, I don't give a cuss whether he nods his head or not, and his voice is a gift straight from God. His solo stuff is brilliant. Ever see him live, solo ? I have.Twice. And the man is just outtasight. You guys are probably jealous just cuz he looks as good now as he did thirty years ago, which is more than can be said for you old farts, I'll be bound. Murray

Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: Jim Krause Date: 25 Sep 01 - 02:53 PM Didn't George Harrison play a Ric in the early days of the Beatles, say '64-65? I like Rics too. Always thought that if I bought an electric, I'd save up my pennies for a Ric 12 string. Ya gotta love that sound. |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: GUEST Date: 24 Sep 01 - 05:45 PM But surely the whole point of a Rickenbacker is to sound like a Rickenbacker? The acoustics might be great, but they'll sound like acoustics. They won't have that Rickenbacker 'twang' The greatest sound in the world! |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: Clifton53 Date: 24 Sep 01 - 05:36 PM Rickenbacker has come out with two new acoustic models! The 700S Shasta MG (sounds like a race car to me), which is a rosewood 6 string, and the Comstock700C, which is a maple bodied 12 string. These guitars are big dreadnoughts, 17 inch lower bouts! Reviewed in " Guitar World Acoustic", # 47. |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: GUEST,Pete Date: 24 Sep 01 - 05:33 PM Spaw Brilliant! I'm a big Byrds fan, but always found McGuinn's solo stuff - how can I put it - completely shite I think I might even make a 'nodding McGuinn' for the back of my car. In fact I will! I'll be off to the mall tomorrow to find something suitable to stick his visage on Thank you, the biggest laugh I've had since... You know Pete |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: catspaw49 Date: 24 Sep 01 - 04:26 PM Jeff said it....There isn't a lot here about Ricks because we talk mainly acoustic. I'm a big Petty fan but Ireally hate McGuinn. What's with the head bobbing shit? He always reminds me of one of those dolls in the back window of a car with it's head on a spring. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: GUEST Date: 24 Sep 01 - 11:43 AM Ricks, for some reason, don't get the attention they deserve. They are a well made guitar. The neck-thru-body construction on the solid bodies, and the walnut wood give great tone. Some well known celebs, from Roger McGuinn of the Byrds to Tom Petty of the Heartbreakers, have played Ricks. Their basses offer a distinct sound that is unmatched. For the quality, they are a good value, the bottom of the line 6-string being under a thousand U.S. dollars. Twenty-four frets and nice looks to boot. Perhaps they need a better marketing strategy. |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: jeffp Date: 24 Sep 01 - 08:13 AM This is primarily a site full of folk musicians, mostly acoustic. That said, however, I LOVE my Rick! jeffp |
Subject: RE: Rickenbacker Guitars From: GUEST,Ed Date: 24 Sep 01 - 07:27 AM Reminds me of a quote from an early REM album review: "Forget the harps. If I get to heaven, I want the angels to be playing arpeggios on rickenbackers" Ed |
Subject: Rickenbacker Guitars From: GUEST,rick fan Date: 24 Sep 01 - 07:16 AM To me, the sound of a Rick playing lead, is probably the nicest electric guitar sound going (both 6 and 12 string) Looking through this forum, they hardly ever get mentioned. Just wondering why? Are you folks mostly acoustic players, or (heaven forbid) do people exist who don't like Rickenbackers?!? |
