Donna was performed by Richie Valens. The anniversary of his death in that famous plane crash was this month.

Thanks for the link. I've always thought Blue Velvet a quintessentially fifties-sounding song.

I thought he sang "Donna" too, but I don't see it at the site. Must be someone else.

"Support Your Local Folk Police" Roger, what took you so long? The cat is already out of the bag, the lyrics have been printed, and now a whole new generation will thrill to the immortal sounds of Bobby Vinton! Makes me want to post threads seeking "Blue on Blue", or his pop charts swan song "la la la la la la la la" I think it was in Polish, so it might qualify as "world music". But just remember Roger, when you put on your "folk Police" uniform, No rubber hoses, No forced confessions, No "good cop, bad cop" interrogations...well, perhaps in this case...

This is thread is a violation of the folk music laws. Certainly, Gene, you should know better.

Roses are reddish/Violets are bluish/If it weren't for Buddha/We'd all be Jewish. You were expecting, maybe, someone else?--John (not Jon)

On the subject can anyone fill in the missing words in this rhyme?

Roses are reddish,
Violets are bluish,
... ... Jewish.

VIA JEN's LYRIC SITE. http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/zebedee/2/c974.htm

ROSES ARE RED

A long long time ago, On graduation day,
You wrote into my book, You signed this way:

CHORUS: Roses are red, my love, Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet, my love, But not as sweet as you.

We dated through high school, And when the big day came,
You wrote into my book, Next to your name: (CHORUS)

Then I went far away, and you found someone new,
I read your letter dear, and I wrote back to you:

CHORUS: Roses are red, my love, Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet, my love, Good luck, may God bless you.

Is that your little girl? She looks a lot like you.
Someday some boy will write, In her book too: (CHORUS)

Four people died in that tragic crash! Randy Hughes, the pilot, Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins. In a similar situation where Waylon Jennings was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy Holly, and gave up his seat at the last moment, Billy Walker was supposed to have been on the plane with Patsy Cline and gave up his seat at the last moment. A newspaper/wire service representative reportedly called Billy's wife to inform her of the tragic accident and she replied; "You must be mistaken, Billy's in bed asleep."

Looking for the lyrics for Roses Are Red, by Bobby Vinton. I'm also trying to remember who died in the plane crash with Patsy Cline. Was it Cowboy Copas?
