This is interesting, I didn't post the above message (the one at 1:10 pm) assigned to me, not that I disagree, however, it would be nice if the person who posted it hadn't used my name.

Must agree that they were happy times - the music alone was ENOUGH to make me happy.

He did indeed, Murray:

Steve Hillage

Rana,

On Steve Hillage's record 'L' there is an 8 minute piece (best described as hippie noodling) called Hurdy Gurdy Glissando. Those were the days!

I thought that was the front man Daevid Allen (who was in the original Soft Machine), though Steve may have - it's a long time ago. Steve played "Glissando" guitar.

Was Steve Hillage the one who used to wear a strange tall woolly hat?

Haven't heard of Steve Hillage for years! Saw him and the others in Gong several times, including the time at Windsor in 1974 when the police finally turfed the free festival patrons off the park. (I had left well before then - mate and myself were there early in the week but were searched ("with a smile") at 2 am, 2:30 am, 3 am and 4 am (the last also with a "I didn't get these stripes for nothing sonny" when it was pointed out that he was asking a load of stuff the others didn't)).

Back to the topic - like "53" I've heard Donavan's song but not Hillage's. We just had a Hurdy Gurdy Gala in Toronto last Sunday - 8 Hurdy Gurdy's on stage at once!!

Cheers Rana (who might now dig out the Flying Teapots from the Planet Gong).
