Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Fortunato Date: 15 Nov 01 - 02:47 PM RICK PARFITT has obviously been abusing himself. How's his eyesight? (hee, hee) Rick it's no good casting off chords you don't really play! |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Rick Fielding Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:31 PM I plan on saving myself huge arm misery in my declining years by dropping one chord a month. First to go: that damned Db7b5 demented. Ahhh....I feel better already! Rick |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: wildlone Date: 15 Nov 01 - 01:05 PM Status Quo, renowned for the annual farewell reunion concerts they did at Reading every festival. I think it was Francis Rossi on being asked why they kept on appearing "for the last time before we finally retire", said "for the money they keep offering we would be stupid to refuse". dave, [not a fan] |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Steve in Idaho Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:51 PM Does this mean that when I get an elbow (that would be el-bone) that doesn't work very well from playing guitar I get to be a multi-millionaire? If so - - - where do I apply? Steve |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Lonesome EJ Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:29 PM I'm still baffled that the guy became a "multi-millionaire" by playing with Status Quo. I had no idea Pictures of Matchstick Men had been that successful. |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: GUEST,JohnB Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:12 PM I don't know but personally I am just getting over a bad case of guitar. Thanks, I had to get that off my chest. JohnB |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Steve Parkes Date: 15 Nov 01 - 12:10 PM Mandolin malaise does exist--I've noticed it when I start playing: a lot of the audience seem to be in some discomfort. Steve P.S. And I've often had a blister from tonguing too hard. |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Dave the Gnome Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:57 AM I seem to remeber many years ago that Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull had to seek specialist advice because he reached the stage where he could not actualy let go of his flute! Could be an urban myth of course but I wonder what other musicians suffer from illnesses brought on by their respective instruments? Perhaps we could get such conditions as Mandolin malise? Fidlers elbow? Irritable Bagpipe syndrome (Or is it syndrone?) Makes you wonder...;-) Cheers Dave the Gnome |

Subject: RE: Rick ricked by RSI From: Steve Parkes Date: 15 Nov 01 - 10:35 AM I've seen kazoo players with lips that look like they'e done 15 rounds with Frank Bruno (or 5 with Henry Cooper). At the first sign of numbness, take it out! If the wiorst comes to the worst, you can always sing.... Steve |

Subject: Rick ricked by RSI From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 15 Nov 01 - 05:06 AM No, not that Rick, this one: an awful warning if you rely on too few chords? Repetitive chord injury silences Quo guitarist RICK PARFITT'S strident belief in rock'n'roll's classic three-chord sequence, two if he can get away with it, as lead guitarist with Status Quo for 35 years finally caught up with him yesterday. He was diagnosed with repetitive strain injury. The 53-year-old multi-millionaire musician, noted for his full volume approach to Down Down, The Wanderer and Rockin' All Over The World, was forced to cancel sold-out concerts in Grimsby and Leicester, part of the band's "Never Say Never" tour. Rehearsing for Monday's performance in Carlisle, Parfitt found his elbow had become so inflamed that it too painful for him to play. A doctor found that he was suffering from RSI. Parfitt is now receiving physiotherapy at Leicester City Football Club to get fit for Saturday's concert in Manchester. A spokesman for the band said: "Rick's injury comes from playing live energy shows all the time". Parfitt said: "I'd just like to apologise to all our fans who have been disappointed. I feel absolutely terrible in letting them down at such short notice, but I couldn't move either my elbow or lower arm and it would have been impossible for me to play one chord, let alone three. I promise to make it up to our fans when the shows are rescheduled." (c)Electronic Telegraph RtS (the no-chord wonder)
