I have just retried this this search after 14 years and discovered that you have posted a wonderfull response. That the magic thinks about internet. I wanted to make you know that I am pleased to have received this answer. I will be very happy to find this performance by the De Angelis singers. So far, I could not find it on youtube. Perhaps you can advise me. Many thanks again. Olivier Descamps Nivelles Belgium NB : My email has changed : descaoli@mail.interpac.be does not exist any more. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: When Will Love Rule the World From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 May 10 - 09:13 PM People really shouldn't request more than one song at a time. It's much better to put each request in a separate thread. You never know when a request will lead to a long discussion of a particular song, and it can get confusing as hell if people try to discuss 2 different songs in one thread. This is the only thread (I think) about WHEN WILL LOVE RULE THE WORLD, there are other threads about the other songs that our Belgian friend mentioned. For instance, various versions of the "old tobacco box" verse have already been posted in these threads: Lyr Req: There Was an Old Soldier Lyr Req: Turkey in the Straw Lyr Req: The Red Haired Boy Tune Req: There Was an Old Beggar Lyr Req: Turkey in the Straw (G Wettlin-Larsen) Lyr Add: you'll always have tobacco I suppose I should have pointed that out when I decided to revive a 13-year-old request. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: When Will Love Rule the World From: GUEST,Kevin Date: 19 May 10 - 03:16 PM Ifoubd this at :http://www.musicanet.org/robokopp/usa/thwaolds.htm Kevin Oh, there was an old soldier and he had a wooden leg, He had no tobacco, no tobacco could he beg. Another old soldier, as sly as a fox, He always kept tobacco in his old tobacco box. :| Said the one old soldier, "won't you give me a chew?" Said the other old soldier, "I'll be hanged if I do, Just save up your money and put away your rocks, And you'll always have tobacco in your old tobacco box." :| Well, the one old soldier, he was feeling mighty bad, He said, "I'll get even, I will begad!" He goes to a corner, takes a rifle from the peg, And stabs the other soldier with a splinter from his leg. :| Now there was an old hen and she had a wooden foot, And whe made her nest by the mulberry root, She laid more eggs than any hen on the farm, |: And another wooden leg wouldn't do her any harm. :| |
