John -- have you tried playing your CD-R's on someone else's player? It may be the discs that are deteriorating. This does happen, and much quicker than we were led to believe

BJ

refresh, Well it looks like I will have to get a new Cd player soon, this one is absolutely knackered, (it won't play CD'Rs any more (I have about 100 of these!) and it keeps making weird clicking noises). Man in pub says Denon are good as well, does anyone have a Denon CD player? or Sony? these 2 are on my shortlist, RE the tax problem I was having= I moved house about 6 months ago so hopefully they have forgotten about me, if/ when they catch up with me, I will pretend I am thick and don'y know what they are talking about, shouldn't be too difficult eh?! They way I see it, I don't ask them for anything 9 I don't claim any benefits or allowances, so why should they ask me for anything? I think Tax is ab big rip,off i pay over & 1oo a weekm andd they still want more, bastards!.john

The taxman can kiss my arse! He is asking for 3 grand, I told them they can have 500 quid and be grateful they are getting that, they said they will inbestigate me, they can do what they bloody like.I rung them up and told them to piss off and stop hassling me, they said if you be cheeky or make trouble we can put you in jail.bunch of vultures.

Marantz is the best for the money, in my opinion. They have one in your price range. Check it out, and read the reviews.

Sony is sort of the default at our house. Not really because of any electronic or sonic or economic virtues. They're just what everybody seems to have when we are in the market for audio equipment. We're certainly not audiophiles at our house but we've always been satisfied with them. Their durability seems to be OK. For 500 English pounds you could buy an entire mini/small/bookshelf (whatever they're now called) system here in the states.

John

I have a CD/MiniDisc Player (It's a Goodmans) It's very useful in that you can record from a CD to a MiniDisc in very much the same principle as recording tape to tape.

You can of course record from a tuner, record player etc. via an amplifier. The only drawback is that you can't record to a CD.

Price-wise they are a lot cheaper than £500!
