Subject: RE: Lyr Add: LiverpoolJohn From: Joan from Wigan Date: 15 Feb 02 - 03:57 AM I've not come across this song, and, being from Liverpool originally, I'm intrigued. Do you know if it is based on a true story or not? And can anyone supply the tune please? Joan |

Subject: LiverpoolJohn From: Willa Date: 14 Feb 02 - 05:28 PM Liverpool John Phil and June Colclough When Liverpool John was just sixteen he went away to sea Working as a deckhand for the Brocklebank company. He saw the sights of India from a bar room in Bombay, On the morning after wished he'd never went away. Chorus And he tries to settle down,he tries to stay on shore; But every time he gets itchy feet and he's off to sea once more. He met a girl from Scotty Road, he tried to settle down, Working for her father on a window-cleaning round. Adverts in the paper caught his eye one day, And he sailed on a coaster bound for Liverpool next day. He jumped ship in Boston, there he learned to sing. In a travelling rock and roll show which lasted till the spring. Playing by the Hudson he felt the salt winds blow, And signed as a bosun for the Gulf of Mexico. He nearly froze to death one night in winter 'sixty-three. Heading home from Rotterdam he swore he'd leave the sea. Working on the night shift, spending days in bed, Longed to see the sun again, so he sailed from Birkenhead. |
