Subject: RE: Record & Collaborate Online! From: hesperis Date: 14 Mar 02 - 10:58 PM Well, I've been very lucky to work on a specific musical project in collaboration with some very dedicated people, and I hope to do some other projects with a few of them in the future. |

Subject: RE: Record & Collaborate Online! From: katlaughing Date: 14 Mar 02 - 07:57 PM I feel more comfortable with this, too, Kevin. Just to clarify: the recording place I linked to is not IUMA; I just heard about it through an IUMA newsletter. |

I like the idea of people collaborating around the world. I feel more comfortable with the idea of doing it in this kind of context (and I have done it). But I am sure there are those who would feel more comfortable in the IUMA setting.
It's all part of this strange way the world is going in which it gets much bigger and much smaller at the same time, and we can start to get away from thinking in terms of mass media and assembly line entertainment and elitism. |

Subject: RE: Record & Collaborate Online! From: hesperis Date: 14 Mar 02 - 06:36 PM That happens in a less formal way among various online musicians. I may be doing a bit of that myself soon, I hope. :) |

Subject: RE: Record & Collaborate Online! From: katlaughing Date: 14 Mar 02 - 05:40 PM That's what I was wondering. I think you meant the Mudcat CD link, right, Kevin? Of course, I know about that. I just posted the info on this new site because I thought people might be interested. Thanks, kat |

Subject: RE: Record & Collaborate Online! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 14 Mar 02 - 04:07 PM We do that sort of thing on the Mudcat from time to time, though in a less formal way. (For example, here) |

Subject: Record & Collaborate Online! From: katlaughing Date: 13 Mar 02 - 11:45 PM I received an email from IUMA, today, with a link to www.nowrecording.com. I have not had time to explore it, so I don't know if there is any folk on there or not, but it looks like a really interesting concept with a lot of information for musicians and performers. Here's their welcome blurb: Hi everyone, and we're really glad to have you on board! The way nowRECORDING works is that you upload a non-finished recording project (in mp3 format) and then request whatever instruments or vocals that you'd like the nowRECORDING community to contribute. It's as simple as that! The community can browse the database of projects (by style and/or instrument needed), and hopefully the right person will like your project and want to help out. The COOL thing is that the talent base is global, so with a large enough community you might just find that right fit, something you would never find locally. That's what we're after, and we're having a blast... Enjoy the site and don't hesitate to send us any comments or questions to support@nowRECORDING.com. Henry and the nowRECORDING Team |
