Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 14 Jun 02 - 05:57 AM Linda, as you know, the incontinent human pyramid (or the wee of death) is the climax of the Purple Helmet Bicycle Display Team's display. Much more impressive than those so-called Red Arrows idiots, who have never been able to do their "turn" indoors when wet. And although lacking the colour of the smoke generators attached to Hawk Trainers, you can often see an impressive trail of steam as the Purple Helmets wobble past. The musical bit is revelation. Skipjack and I can play kazoos; perhaps we can persuade Mick to blow hard on an alpine horn whilst aloft on two sets of moist, manly shoulders. He could be naked except for a pair of tight rubber pants with the absorbant wadding poking out of the seams. And of course, resplendant in his shiny purple helmet. I'll speak to him on Sunday, but as you know, he is always up for anything. |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Linda Kelly Date: 14 Jun 02 - 04:37 AM I think you may have to revise your name -it's too risque as it stands. Frankly you would be more impressive if you could cycle over the Humber bridge whilst urinating and playing your instruments at the same time-preferably whilst oakley and yourselve support Mick McGarry on your shoulders. Now that's a challenge!!! |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Willie-O Date: 13 Jun 02 - 07:57 AM When I saw the thread title I thought it must be some strange old Anglo ritual sport that would be emphatically protested by the Animal Rights League...would that it were so. Seven, eight pints...ennnnnnhhhhh. Back in my day....ah ferget it. Willie-O |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Skipjack K8 Date: 13 Jun 02 - 06:23 AM The question is "Where will the Purple Helmet Bicycle Display Team appear next?" Skipjack |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 11 Jun 02 - 10:31 AM Mick All my tailoring is now undertaken by Messrs. Millets. The eight pints was a big mistake. I always fail at this, despite all your encouragement and teaching. Oakley |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Skipjack K8 Date: 11 Jun 02 - 07:47 AM Oakley's raddle chafes so, Linda, and if it isn't him it's the chest freezer accordian I was labouring under. You obviously missed the webcast from the cameras on top of the bridge piers, although it has to be said that the old nudger is blurry at 705 metres. I might try and reactivate the box at the Sloop tonight, but as I fell off the bike and landed in the gutter on top of the poor thing, it may have suffered undue compression. Friends on the A164? It was more like the last remake of 'Duel'! Skipjack |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: GUEST,mick punch the horse Date: 11 Jun 02 - 06:02 AM raggytash,I have unfortunatly lost all your details including phone number. If you would forward them to me at :mary@punchthehorse.co.uk I will get in touch. Only the eight pints,David, you are sadly letting the side down. I thought you were a seasoned "Punch the Horser"like the idea of the gold spats though, maybe you could give me the name of your tailor. |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Linda Kelly Date: 10 Jun 02 - 04:04 PM I am personally still recovering from the sight of Skipjack in full combat lycra trying to stuff a seatcover up his anorak. I assume that it is some strange yellowbelly ritual. Eyes were in full glaze there Greg!- disappointed to see that your urinating did not make it onto the prime spot on Look North -Harry Gration was busy perhaps? |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: GUEST,Oakley Date: 10 Jun 02 - 12:24 PM Skipjack, You were worried that two intertwining columns of piss could, in some cultures, be a ceremonial affirmation of something. I have researched this and found only one reference. This is in "Marriage Rituals of the Lower Usk Valley" by Dilwyn Rees (Bwlch Press 1928)in which he states that it is only significant if performed from the upper deck of a Newport Corporation tram, and conducted whilst "As naked as the day you were born". As I was born wearing a velveteen 3/4 length frock coat and gold spats, I think that there should be no anxieties here. It was an uplifting moment, when I realised that I had so many friends in the motoring fraternity on the A164. Never have I received so many affectionate car-horn tributes and shouts of encouragement from so many, who like me, appreciate that there is an alternative way of cycling on a narrow trunk road, other than in a straight line in the cycle lane. A great afternoon, my friend. My preparatory pint of Guinness in the Sloop (as there is no acceptable black stuff in Nellies) brought my personal tally to 8. Hence my sadness, which appears to be less dense than beer. And we would have got away with it if it hadn't been for you maudlin kids! Salut! |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Skipjack K8 Date: 09 Jun 02 - 05:53 PM 176 feet allowing for 16 knot south westerly. God, I like an experiment, and only seven pints as apparatus. I've an uncommon liking for young Oakley. Skipjack |

Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Les from Hull Date: 08 Jun 02 - 08:04 PM My God - isn't the Humber polluted enough already? You could always get a morris dancer to drop a red telephone box off the bridge. Actually they drop much better than they roll. (See you in Nellies) |
Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: Skipjack K8 Date: 08 Jun 02 - 06:26 PM Oakley's 40 today, he of the gifted fiddle playing. We are celebrating by cycling to Beverley (Nellies) tomorrow, getting drunk as monkeys, wobbling back to the Humber Bridge, and doing an experiment. We are going to wee off the bridge, and calculate at 110 feet per second per second, how high the bridge is. Skipjack |

Subject: RE: Punch the Horse in Hull Tonight From: GUEST,mick /punch the horse Date: 21 Apr 02 - 05:15 AM HERE IT IS,HROTHGAR. VERY SIMPLY THERE WAS A MILKMAN IN COTTINGHAM WHO HAD TWO HORSES, ONE CALLED JUDY AND SUPRISE THE OTHER WAS CALLED PUNCH.WE DID NOT HAVE A NAME AT THE TIME, AND HAD OUR FIRST PAYING GIG. JOHN SMITH ONE OF THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE BAND, LIVED IN COTTINGHAM AND KNEW THE MILKMAN AND THE HORSES. WE LIKED THE NAME AND HAVE USED IT EVER SINCE. SOME BEIGE PERSON ONCE OFFERED US LOTS OF MONEY TO PLAY AT A RACE COURSE,THE CONDITION WAS THAT WE CHANGED THE NAME OF THE BAND, AS THE ORGANISOR THOUGHT IT WOULD UPSET THE PUNTERS. WE KINDLY TOLD HIM TO GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY.
