Subject: RE: Help:ISDN connection From: 8_Pints Date: 18 Apr 02 - 06:30 PM Can't help on the ISDN problem, but are you in a region where you could install an ADSL link? Typically, you need to have a local BT Exchange nearby that can support this high speed link. Mine seems to be pretty reliable and might give you an acceptable alternative. Bob vG |

Subject: Help:ISDN connection From: Bullfrog Jones Date: 18 Apr 02 - 05:03 AM I hope someone's got an idea about this -- it's driving me mad! We connect to the net through BT Speedway ISDN to BT Openworld Anytime(we also use it to send and receive faxes). Up until a couple of weeks ago we had a Speedway PCI card, but that suddenly failed for no apparent reason, so we took it back to the BT shop and they exchanged it for a Speedway ISDN TA (Terminal Adaptor) basically the same thing in an an external box that connects via a USB port. Everything connects up and works o.k., but our internet connection drops out, regular as clockwork, after 10 minutes, and when we re-connect, it sometimes freezes, locking up the whole computer, so that we have to disconnect the power to re-boot. I tried un- and re-installing to no effect, then phoned the Speedway helpline, and they advised that, to establish whether it was BT Openworld dropping us out or the TA, we set up a new connection to a paid ISP on a number that they gave us. We did that and sure enough the dropouts continued, after 10 minutes, every time. Speedway's only answer to that was that we should take the box back and change it, but I think I remember the guy in the BT shop saying it was their last one, and we can't afford to be without it, as we work from home and rely on the internet and fax for a lot of our business. Has anyone had this problem, and anyone got any ideas about how to solve it? BJ |
