If it helps at all, I was IN Bye Bye Birdie in school in '68, so for royalties to be cheap enough for us to afford it had to be a few years old by then.....ET

Well, there you have it. Chalk it up to yet another case where I should have been more diligent in reading. Yes, that Conrad one sounds like the one.

I recall that, during thr Beatles craze, some of the groupies used to sing:

"We love you Beatles, oh yes we do. We love you Beatles, oh yes it's true. When we're not with you, we're blue boo hoo, Oh Beatles we love you, yes it's true, Oh Beatles we love you."

Obviously, they were taking some liberties with another song...likely it could have been a kids song.

Anyone know this one?

One more thing, the part of the show where this is sung is transcribed at this site. This segment is also known as A Healthy Normal American Boy. Now I want to see the movie again. Thanks for the memories. Check this out. http://www.vanessawilliams.de/mum-byelyrics.htm

Ahh, good then. All the "blue" turned up was a poem about Puxatawney Phil, and that wasn't it!

Since you have a space after We love you, it sounds like
We love you Conrad, oh yes we do,
we love you Conrad, and we'll be true.
When you're not near us, we're blue
OH Conrad we love you.
from Bye Bye Birdie. I did some searching and found out when the broadway show played in England, Beatle fans started singing We love you Beatles.

Found this one too:

MOTHER, WE LOVE YOU!

yesterday's gone and won't come again,
i cannot pretend, cause it's over
but here on this day, we'd like, if we may,
wish you a happy birthday, mother

CHORUS
mother, we love you, oh yes we do
yes it's true, oh how we love you
mother, we love you, yes we do
though far apart, in our hearts
oh how we love you

we children grow up and go separate ways,
like lovers, who've stayed too long
but brother and sister and I come again
to sing you this birthday song

a family will die, if it does not care,
they tell me blood's thicker than water,
a family will live, if truly it shares,
every mother and brother and daughter

CHORUS
mother, we love you, oh yes we do
yes it's true, oh how we love you
mother, we love you, yes we do
that's moog, lynnz and dave, here to say,
oh, how we love you

Could it be this one?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We Love Mothers Sung to the tune of "Frere Jacques"

We love mothers.
We love mothers.
Yes we do; yes we do.
Mothers are for hugging (hug self)
Mothers are for kissing (blow kiss)
We love you; yes, we do.
Thank you, mothers.
Thank you, mothers.
For your love, for your love.
Mothers are for hugging, (hug self)
Mothers are for kissing (blow kiss)
We love you; yes, we do.

(I'll see what else I can find....)
