The initial thread was very important because it lowered the bar for what is considered a "troll"--now, at least in some people's minds, a troll is any question that hasn't been completely answered in the first three posts--

Sheet music for "Caro mio ben" (Dearest, Believe) is in Music for the Nation: American Sheet Music, 1870-1885.

McGrath,

The file you linked to is a midi file, it is not a QuickTime file, and you don't need QuickTime installed to play it.

That's the tune, anyway. That isn't the same as saying that's necessarily the song Ernie's mother used to sing.. (Ignore that man hiding behind a curtain). And here's what it sounds like - if you've got QuickTime on your compoter. Whch if you are watching it throughnthentelly Greg, you probably haven't.

What's Caro Mio Ben? An old song from Italy?

Yes, Greg

It was recognised as "Caro Mio Ben"

McGrath tried to get pickey saying that it wasn't a British tune, but thankfully no one was interested. You didn't miss much in the threads latter stages...

Sorry, I can't read long threads. Can any kind soul tell me if this tune has been recognised yet?
