Anyone coming to Beverley and interested in music should check out the many carvings of musicians in the Minster - hurdy-gurdy, viol, bagpipe, lute etc. The motif for the Beverley and East Riding Folk Festival (a bagpipe player affectionately known as 'man biting leg of octopus') was designed from one of these carvings.

Also if anybody is intersted, Beverley Minster is one of the oldest chuches in England, it's very intersting, especially if you are intersted in that kind of thing.john

Incidentally, if you haven't been to Beverley before (or even if you have)we have arranged for a guided historical walk of the town beginning at 11am Sunday (23rd)and finishing at around 12.30 at Beverley's oldest pub - the Sun.

And that is free too

Yes, the 60 beers on offer in the Sun (hand picked by me) and the special festival brew at Hodgson's (session bitter) mean that the local CAMRA branch are coming "en masse" for a tasting.

The music will be good too (and free)

You only need to be able to cadge a lift. You're greatest expense could be a piece of cardboard with the word BEVERLEY written on it in felt-tip pen. (I suppose that some of you might want to try some of the many beers available that weekend, so it might be best to bring some beer tokens with you)

The whole festival is free and there is a ceilidh on Saturday night.Camping is free too so even those on limited incomes can afford to come.

super place! have a good festival. If I wasn't out of work I would probably consider the "Peoples Festival" even if there is no ceilidh!

Beverley Friary is a restored Dominican Friary cited in the Canterbury Tales and is being used as a venue for the People's Voice folk Festival, Beverley: 21st -23rd June 2002.

The Friary is also a Youth Hostel and has accommodation. If anyone wants to stay there during the festival, they still have a bit of space left.
