Subject: George MacLaren (St.John's,Nf) From: Polecat Date: 16 Jul 02 - 10:19 PM To all of you that have listened to VOCM radio online,George MacLaren was an Open Line host who had a habit of supporting the little known artists who produce and record their own music in their basements. George made it a habit of playing a "folk" tune by any one of these artists as a forum of spreading their "word" and often,on a Sunday night during his talk show, would play some selected Gospel tune that one or another would record... George touched a lot of lives and helped out such local music groups here in Newfoundland like the Flummies","Simani"and "Buddy Wasisname and The Other Fellas",not to mention the "Carleton Showband"... I can go on... George was buried on Monday,July 15/02 from St.Theresa's Church here in St.John's,Nf. He is survived by his wife Clara and children David and Denise. |
