Subject: RE: Help: Mac CD player won't work From: GUEST,JTT Date: 28 Jul 02 - 05:17 PM Thanks, Nick. It started working again of its own accord, must have been just having a bad day. But I'll keep your advice in mind in case it happens again. |

Subject: RE: Help: Mac CD player won't work From: Amos Date: 27 Jul 02 - 02:40 PM The chances are it is not a hardware issue. First line of attack would be to search for a Preferences file for the player, and if there is one, throw it away. Then try the player application again. It will generate a new Preferences file when you start the application. Frequently happens that these prefs files get corrupted by some transient error, and mess up the paplication, but it is a simple remedy and it often cures mysterious bugs. I suggest you also zap the PRAM before re-trying as it may have a bum parameter in it from some earlier point in time. A |

Subject: RE: Help: Mac CD player won't work From: M.Ted Date: 27 Jul 02 - 01:37 PM I had a similar problem, and solved it by doing a manual re-install the of the DVD-CD Driver--my situation was even worse than yours because my drive didn't even want to read the CD I'd created with the OS installers, so I ended up e-mailing myself the driver--my recollection is that I was running OS 9 and I ended up getting the driver from OS 8.5--I went to MacFixit, and found that many people were having the same problem--my solution is posted there, probably with more detail on the fix than I remember right now-- |

Subject: Mac CD player won't work From: GUEST,JTT Date: 27 Jul 02 - 05:04 AM Tech help here please, from musical and Mac-ical types. My PowerBook has stopped reading recorded CDs, though it will read *commercially* produced ones. Do I just need to clean the lens, or is there something more wrong, dja think? |
