Subject: Discovering 'Curfa'

It's not often do I get the chance to just sit in awe! A visit to Newfoundland doesn't come easy financially,but I am ever thankful that "Curfa" came to town to play at the Bannerman Park Folk Festival this August,and even happier that I ended up meeting them by accident. If anyone knows St.John's and the hustle and bustle of a George Street Friday night,you can imagine the trials and tribulations of "new people" in town as they join the throng after bar closing hours in the pursuit of a taxi home for the night. It is merely by chance I pulled up to the gates of City Hall on New Gower only to pick up Addie O'Connor and part of her entourage. God love her,but she and her friend were tired from the hunt for the cab home! Finding out she was from Overseas and playing at the folk festival here,I went down and listened to the music of the band....QUITE SOMETHING! I ended up with the CD from Addie and played it at five in the morning to the mortal disgust of the Missus,of whom I woke... Sorry! I don't know how long this band has played together,but I only can say that if their relationship with each other is to be measured by how they play together,then here is a band with longevity! I wish Addie,Eamonn Dillon,Roisin Dillon,Paraie Keane,and John Schreiber "good luck" with their group and I can only hope that they come back to Newfoundland to play here again... The CD is plainly called "Curfa" and includes such selections as P is for Paddy,Kitty's gone a Milking,McFadden's,and "boys of the Town"...A highly recommended listen!
