Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Aug 04 - 04:30 PM What open mike said. Reminding people that there's another place where you are likely to run into people you know on the Mudcat makes a lot of sense. |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: open mike Date: 17 Aug 04 - 04:12 PM well since the mud cat was especially problematical yesterday.. this is a good time to remind people that there is a back-up alternative place to meet if we can't get in here. hope the move goes smooth. |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: Clinton Hammond Date: 17 Aug 04 - 02:36 PM By that rational, why not refresh every single lyric submission thread, so new people can learn about the songs... Or all the computer advice threads... Or all the Rubbish is rubbish threads.... |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: GUEST,Jon Date: 17 Aug 04 - 02:27 PM I don't see any point but I'm sure John means well. This time though, John's timing is a little unfortunate and certainly won't be doing me any favours with anyone who might look in for the first time. As I announced both at the Annexe and Folkinfo last week, I am expecting downtime on both servers at various times this evening as my ISP prepares to move thier machines to a new data centre. The acutal physical move is scheduled for Wednesday 18th, starting at 6am BST. They aim to have all services restored by 9am but I would not be too surprised if things over-run a little. Jon |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: GUEST Date: 30 Jan 03 - 07:54 AM LOL Nigel. I don't know off the top of my head what png stands for but I believe it is an open standard graphic format similar to a gif. gif, although widly used is, I believe, a proprietry format (Compuserve I think) and is not avialabile in the graphics conversion routine (a version of ghostscript) I use for that reason. All usless info... Jon |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: Nigel Parsons Date: 30 Jan 03 - 07:35 AM "Jon" I read that last paragraph of yours as offerings a song as a "draft" pornographic time for new glasses I think Nigel |

Subject: RE: http://www.folkinfo.org/forum.asp From: GUEST Date: 30 Jan 03 - 04:27 AM Congrats! Now just get users to it and you're there! Thanks Jed, I don't know how many people still look in but, to date, 123 people have joined. The forum is quiet and I think always will be, at least compared to Mudcat! The area that has gone very well is the song database where we have about 170 traditional songs so far all with notes and with some of the "usual suspects" from here providing useful information as they continue to do here. Our choice of using abc as also proved useful and within our small membership we have been lucky enough to gain Phil Taylor (author of Barfly) and Wil Macauly (author of Skink) so we have some real expertise on hand! ABC itself has worked well for us. We can offer any song in the database in any key you want and as an abc, a midi, a "draft" png graphic or a "print quality" pdf with all the words. Jon |
