When I was expecting, I was told that two weeks on either side of the due date was right on target. If you think you want the little 'un born, just think how the mum-to-be feels about it. *g*. Here's hoping all goes smoothly.

Giok, thanks for keeping us posted. I did a little research and found the following info. I hope it helps to soothe the First Grandchild jitters.:-)

In looking through various sites, I found that five days after the due date is not at all that unusual and also that due dates are often a bit off. I also found stats that said 95% of babies born "postdate" are fine and healthy. And, here's some info on the type of tests they are probably doing, just a wellbeing check, really:

For both the nonstress test and the contraction stress test, two belts are placed around the mother's abdomen to hold instruments that measure fetal heart rate. During the nonstress test, the mother pushes a button each time she feels the baby move, which causes a mark to be made on a paper recording. The fetus's heart rate is expected to rise when it moves.

The contraction stress test measures the fetal heart rate when the mother's uterus contracts. The contractions are induced, and changes in the fetus's heart rate are noted.

Got an e mail to-day, no sign of this child. They've gone for a stress test whatever that means, but it involves monitoring the babies heart. Suppose if he gets too stressed they'll induce the birth. Fingers crossed, and thanks for the kind thoughts.

Giok, I'm an easy hour away if there's anything I can help with.

Peter.

No such thing as over-excited when you're about to become a grandparent.*bg* I've got free long distance on my cell, too, so give a holler if you want any phoning and encouarging done...if Fortunato-the Younge doesn't beat me to it.:-)

Do you want me to call them? Quechee? Virginia? Where on God's green earth is Quechee? Anyway, Giok, I live in Silver Spring MD and my cell phone has free long distance and a jillion hours on the weekend so if you want me to call PM me and I'll ask questions and give cheer, I will. And then I'll post response to you. I'm a grandfather, too, I'll have you know, even at my tender age. Or if not, good luck and all the best. chance

Soaking in hot mineral (spa) water and/or taking a long walk might help. All good things in time! You'll enjoy so just relax, Grams. **BG** My twin grandsons were born when I couldn't be there, too. My sister's daughter was in Italy and my sister in Colorado when her grandson was born.

{{{{Deep breaths}}}} and HUGS!!!

I became a grandfather last month (and was diagnosed with arthritis around the same time). Some major psychological trauma about the whole concept, but once the wee guy arrived - he had the right number of bits in all the right places - I realised "grandad" is just a word. Thoroughly recommend it.

My 1st granchild was due on Wed 21st and it is now Sat 24th, and I'm just about chewing my nails off. The kids are in Quechee VA, and I'm here in Bonnie Scotland, wish I knew how things are going, but don't want to keep phoning, and being a nuisance. I'm sure they've got plenty other things to worry about, and they'll let me know soon enough. I always said that I didn't like kids, now look at me!!
