Jon, you're quite welcome. It was a great time that I had at the two sessions of your group I attended. Also the one down in Steveston too.

The Rogue event was nice, but quite different from what I expect in Folk Music. Still it was very entertaining. I did enjoy yours better, Jon.

Thanks, George. Next meeting of the Folk (who would be delighted to hear and sing with a Scottish traditional singer) is 4 September. Our 43rd Anniversary is the next event on 18 September. Both events are at the Friends Meeting House, 1090 W 70th Ave (just off Granville) and start at 8 sharp. The Vancouver Morris Men meet to drink informally after their practice on Tuesday nights at the Billy Bishop Legion Pub (at Cornwall and Laburnum) starting at about 9.30 pm. The Jericho Folk Club meets Tuesdays at the Jericho Sailing Club at 8 and has floor spots (2 songs if you're there early enough) and 2nd half guests. Interested Mudcatters are invited to PM me about the Fall Folk party Rika and I put on every year, this year on 21 September in New Westminster.

Two further points: 1. Whistler is 2 1/2 hrs north of Vancouver on a winding mountain road. There is one train a day (to North Vancouver) and buses to Vancouver. If you're staying at Whistler, driving to an event in Vancouver and back is thus hardly possible in one evening. 2. The Rogue Folk Club is mostly a performance space with a series of concerts and a newsletter. I don't know how possible it will be to sing at any event they put on. Give Steve Edge a call (his number is probably on the Rogue site).

Jon Bartlett, Vancouver Folk Song Society

Celtic Woolens on Alma at the corner of 10th. Saturday evening. Check the phone book when you get there.

Jon is here once in a while, and he can tell you about the various events at the Vancouver Folk Song Society. They meet at the Quaker House in South Vancouver, near Cambie?

The meetings are on Wednesday, I think. Three weeks of the month. I can't remember the address. Sorry.

Here's a starting point:

Whistler is a ski resort town north of Vancouver. You may be hearing more about this place in the next while as it was recently shortlisted to host the 2010? winter Olympics.

A close friend of mine is leaving for Vancouver BC on SUnday for a conference and would really like to take in some folk music while she is there.

Next weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is the time she would most like to fill, as the conference will be over by then and she will have time to kill.

She is a very fine traditional Scottish singer and would like to have the opportunity to sing while she is there, so if anybody has any up to date information about current singarounds, we would be most grateful.

FWIW I believe the conference is taking place in somewhere called "Whistler"? so if there is any folk stuff happening there, that would be of interest as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Murray
